months and months ago bit-tech came up with a number of ideas to improve what is already the #1 computer mod site on the planet.. Well, I recently came up with an idea that I want to "run past you-all" Modder Build Off: the idea is taken from the discovery channel There premise: two elite builders have x-amount of time to build the coolest bike they can. They head-out to a bike-rally, and the people vote for the winner... A trophy is awarded to the winner.. Simple, straight-forward. We could do the very same thing.. The Modder Build Off: bit-tech sets the rules, and awards a trophy to the winner (and perhaps comes up with some "build-off" funds).. think of the possibilities:: Dark Blade vs G-gnome Nexxo vs piloux perhaps even ME vs ?? ( ) the list goes on and on. bit-tech picks two modders of "equal talent" and says... "BUILD"..... We vote.. A winner is chosen.. A trophy is awarded (the Golden Dremel)... The only real problem I see with this idea is time. The elite machines take a good-year to build, but with that said.. The builders do a project log and we see there progress.. If you like the idea as much as I do, inundate bit-tech with emails.. Let's do some "build offs".... MS
good idea i thought of the exact same thing before when i was watching that show once id like to see you and janne go at it
Yeah - I've thought of this before too - It'd be really cool to get TV sponsership - but I don't think it's viable as a show on its own like biker buildoff is. Instead, you could get someone like g4tv to cover it as an ongoing thing - like a 5 minute segment every week on the project as it's progressing - get people interested in following the project etc....
As i off topically said in your SG thread, this is a great idea and I'd be happy to support/be a part of it/enter it.
yup and I would like to see Modsquad go at it with Darkened hehe I love both their work and think that with both their styles would be a very interesting build off ^^
Your work is "no-doubt" elite. I would enter a BO with you with a small-amount of trepidation, BUT I work well under pressure: A build off between you and I would be great-fun: 7-samurai (Kurosawa) vs the Wild Bunch (Peckinpah): email bit-tech.. lets make it happen:
love the idea...im sure we have all been sitting at home and thinking thats what should be done, about time someone said something...nice work good plan. i would personally like to see the biggest cats from abroad...GoTall and Wolverine....what you think? ah a modding mega war i see in the near future.
Sound like a good idea with the potential for the discovery channel but would need to be run first here before going to tv.
Great idea - you could even do a team version, getting a pair of modders to compete against another pair - tennis doubles style. I'm interested to see how this progresses!
The Best Case Scenario has similar competitions runnings, but there are strict guidelines set as to what case you can use, what tools you can use, etc... For example, with the current competition, it states that you can only use tools that are present on the prize tool and you can only use a LANBOY or something. Quite strict.
Great idea! It would be extremely interesting to follow that cind of competition! Modsquad vs. Darkened...
Wow, thanks a lot. I was hoping you'd give me an easy opponent but hey, I'd be honored to go against you and i love the challenge. Would there be a time limit though? Just asking since both of our modding styles usually take a while. The thing i really like about the discovery channel build offs is that they usually produce really unique bikes that opened my eyes to how friggen cool they could be (too much American chopper gives a bad impression of bikes). Woo, this sounds fun.
i think that if someone comes up with a complete set of rules, and makes a poll on different modders to vs eachother and then vote and then propose this to BT i think that it will be alot more successful than just saying we should have a build off
I think the biggest issue involved would be budget. Probably wouldn't work too well unless there were enough sponsors to not burden the participants too much. There would also have to be a set window of time for planning, designing, and accounting (part lists). That's the part of Biker Build-Off that never ends up on TV. I do hate tool limitations though. That would be pointlessly limiting. It's not what you use to make the end product, but how you use it that matters. And no I don't think it would ever work on TV. Not that I would want it to though.
There would need to be a budget and a time limit, but why impose restrictions on anything else? though having a theme for each competition might be fun
yes like another show i saw umm i forget what its called but they trick out 2 cars give them a budget money 1000 or somthing but, the person not doing it picks the cars and they are the same, that would be cool 2 people in a match bit-tech or another fund hook um up with $1500 tell them the type of case same type of case and start then vote witch is better that would be cool but bit tech wouldent fund $1500 to each person
