Hi guys, I've bought my rig and set it up with ease from advice from you guys, but now I wish to indulge in overclocking, as I was thinking of doing that from the start. My specs are: e6300 *stock cooler* asus p5n-e SLI geil 2gigabyte PC6400 (800mhz) x1950 pro akasa paxpower 460watt PSU OK, I currently know NOTHING about overclocking, and how it is done, I have read the sticky, but I am still confused, and most guides I find from the internet are very old. So a quick guide would be nice . + I need to know of any programs necessary. Also, any idea how far I can push this setup without upgrading the cooler? Thanks in advance
try this link...if you are still confused, let me know, but you shouldn't be...the jist of it is, find your max stable fsb for your ram, then for your cpu...keep the increases small, especially since you are trying to oc right out of the box...i recommend running ur pc for a bit first on stock, but w/e...basically what i did was everyday i would up the fsb, then run memtest and super pi, with a 3dmark run, keeping an eye on temps...when i got to a point where it wouldnt load or was instable, i would up voltages if temps were ok...if that didnt work, i found through other bit-teckers that i needed to lower my memory divider, which i did, and it helped...with the stock cooler, ill be surprised if you can go much higher than stock voltages and 380 fsb or so without at least the temps becoming an issue...
