Modding Painting!

How do I get the best possible finish from a spray can? I have primer and black spray, I will be painting aluminium and some stainless steel

Any tips or recommended guides?

Take your time, many thin layers, sand between layers, wet sand, clear coat at the end. If you use the search you can get a real guide.

 

there will be a lot of sanding involved in it. bill at mnpctech.com has some good video tuts on it.

I have considered not painting it and trying to achieve a brushed look by sanding it, I'll see how things go

you can get premium auto paint online, it might cost a little extra but would be better then Krylon or some other knockoff brand of paint. And you also get a better choice of color and better clear coating supplies, i recommend auto paint for anything your painting. Another great thing about auto paint is that it has better potential not to rust...but i guess thats not a big deal with computers

 

I briefly looked through the guides listed above, and didn't see it mentioned... but I've had outstanding luck using a low temperature baking method. I basically bake the paint in a (dedicated) oven between coats. 210 degrees for 20 minutes, then 180 for 2 hours. The finish always ends up nice and smooth, with great durability. As an added bonus, there is no curing time. Parts are ready to be handled as soon as they cool.

 

I did a paint job using rattle can paint and it turned out great
