Pete, check this mod out: https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-possible-fix-for-blackscreen-issues.56735/ (and anyone else with black screens.) Howtoo 4 dumeyes: Install this: (direct link) http://pa.raevn.com/PAMM_v3.4.0.exe https://forums.uberent.com/threads/rel-pa-mod-manager-v3-4-0.50726/ Then from the available mods list install the mod "No Blackscreens"
No mods installed, just the vanilla install from Steam. I didn't know there were already mods out! I'll try that - I haven't had to use that for at least a couple of years now! I will definitely give this a go. However I'm not getting a black screen - the game window is still open but just has the dark bluish background the menus have. On another note, is there a way to make this game fullscreen? From what I can see, it only runs in a bordered window.
Have you tried to start it with a different monitor attached? Some games won't recognise a change of res and will bugger up their display settings? If so, try entering the config file in notepad and manually changing the res.
Well, files are all present and correct. I alo tried that no black screens mod to no avail. I'll give that a go. Already tried that but all that happens is that windowed mode is a small window whereas fullscreen has the issues I've already described. I'm currently redownloading it,
Campaign has gone live, will give this a go latter. edit- more info to be found somewhere in here: http://www.twitch.tv/zaphodx1/b/531167981 Pretty stoked by the first five minutes.
Sweet zombie jesus this game has come on leaps and bounds! Just had an hour long game on a 3-6 player planet with 2 other lads from ZiiP. First guy went out quickly and me and Morphine slugged it out for over an hour (whilst tinkering with what the hell all the units were. Seriously impressed by it in every sense. The art, mechanics, combat, SCALE! It's living up to everything that I had hoped for.... and that was only on a single planet
This game is now RELEASED! Its my second Kickstarter project to arrive (after Sir, you are being hunted), and oh my does it deliver. After sitting down to breakfast with some crumpets and marmite, and watching the absolutely incredible games from PAX (which I've included below), I decided to jump back in after a month or two's break. Mother of god this game has come on a long way. It feels so much more complete than the last time I played it. I really like the changes to the UI, building effects and explosion effects especially. The addition of a lot more buildings and units than I'd previously played with also makes the game feel a lot deeper than it previously did. I'm aware that a few people think a launch was premature, but as someone who isn't intimately familiar with the unit balance etc, its balls to the wall RTS mayhem from start to finish. On the last game I played (2v2) a huge, metal rich central planet was encircled by two smaller planets with moons. I managed to eliminate my adversary quite early on through resource suppression (bombers!), and a then an Advanced bot rush. This allowed me to max out my economy, before moving a couple of advanced fab bots onto my allies planet, followed by a teleporter through which I poured the entire remnants of my Advanced bot army. He was just about holding his own against a superior enemy force, but together we marched forward, kicked down the door of the base, before crushing the final commander to win the game. There are some things I'd like to see Uber improve upon. Given its importance, orbital combat still feels pretty weak for example, and I don't think switching between planets etc is quite as intuitive as it could be when using the strategic zoom, but generally, I have few complaints. Uber have always said they are going to continue to improve, refine, and add to the game post release, so I'm really positive about the future of the game too. This is kind of the way the game industry is going, with games in eternal beta, and features and fixes added post release. I'm not sure everyone has really accepted that, but if we are honest, its still a better situation than waiting a month for PC Zone Demo Disc in order to get the latest patch. It looks like modders will be fairly well catered for too, which should keep things interesting. So, fellow Commanders: TO WAR. Two MUST WATCH games from PAX Prime below (seriously, watch these, they are INCREDIBLE)
the only thing glaring obvious for me is the idle workers flag ? i start to lose control of them after i queue up multiple instructions for each one but then forget about them by the time they finish had a few campaign games and so far im impressed. Personally i like slower battles but i guess i could tweak that with the resource speed which makes your choices more critical
Not sure about flags, but you can just hit 'F' (for Fabricator) and it selects any idle workers, which are then highlighted so you can see where they are. Beware though - if you get a notification (say for example,‘Nuclear Silo Complete’) and you click on it to take you to the building (all the notifications are clickable btw), then there is a bug which makes the screen blank, requiring a you to restart the match. It seems like every match I play has at least one or two great moments to it right now. Yesterday night, I played an intense 2v2 game on one single metal planet. Spotting an enemy commander on the front lines of his base trying to help setup a forward artillery piece, I attacked with flame tanks and doxes. Unfortunately his uber cannon, which has good AOE, destroyed the bulk of my force before I was able to take him out. However, with only half his health remaining, I microed a squadron of 7 bombers, along with a fighter jet escort as cannon fodder (as the commander is also pretty effective vs air), and managed to destroy him. I then proceeded to expand my economy and get a tier 2 vehicle factory up. Focusing on that, I produced a number of Tier 2 ‘Vanguard’ tanks, and marched them into the final enemy commanders base. The Vanguards are brutally effective at killing commanders and I swept past their perimeter defences and vaporised the final enemy.
