Absolutely exhausted, my temperature's been rising to 40+ every night trying to fight off an infection i guess, then after a couple hours of that the cooling down period begins where i just absolutely sweat everywhere for a couple hours.

I booked a doctors appointment however feel completely let down and betrayed, I’ve had a blocked nose for years imagine being unable to smell anything, for a couple years then when you go to your doctor they refer you to their nose specialist “who says spray salty water in your nose for a year” and if it doesn’t work they’ll look at other things (who also happens to be a gp), I’VE TRIED ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING IT DOESN’T WORK! It’s fine though i guess my GPS don’t have to worry about missing a vital sense. (To give you an idea of the extent this affects me i’ve drank gone off milk before and not realised until i felt a lumpy substance in my mouth)

This is also the doctor that told me i was far too young to have gallstones despite having 3 attacks a day (bending over and puking everywhere) spending all night rolling in a lukewarm bath just to manage the pain (if anyone's suffering try it), for about a year that went on until i finally said every time i have an attack i’m phoning 999 and getting sent to the hospital until they get fed up and are forced to actually do something. (but being gallstone attacks they don’t last very long so you could be bent over being sick one minute by the time the ambulance gets you to the damn hospital you could be right as rain (with everyone looking at you like you’re a liar) low and behold i had the er doctors put a note on my records telling my doctor to send me for a gallstone check and bam, a few weeks later i’m meeting a surgeon and having them removed. THANKS DOC! No more pain.

I don’t drink, i don’t take drugs, i don’t visit the doctor every other week trying to get high strength tablets like some people do, I don’t understand why instead of my doctors working with me they WORK AGAINST ME and make my life a absolute misery.

Now on Wednesday i have an appointment, now i couldn’t care less about this fever despite it keeping me up every night and making my life crap because it’ll pass. What i do want is my sense of smell back and it really irritates me that it’s been known for years and still nothing has been done.

Rant over, plus i have to have a interview with my tutor on Wednesday and feeling like absolute crap ain’t going to help.

    Their is hope though,

Well ignoring the stupidity of the zombie knife ban, most stabbings occur with a good old regular kitchen knife, so just likes guns unless you also make it an offence to not lock your kitchen drawers and keep kitchen utensils out of the hands of under 18's it'll make the sum total of F all difference.

It won't stop any one. They will just take their mother's kitchen knives or go into a hardware shop and buy a machete.

To stop these kids killing each other they need to value life. And they won't do that all of the time the govt ignores them and doesn't put any funding into giving these kids any hope. I watched a docu about an estate in Brixton I knew well, and their mindset when asked how old they thought they would be when they died was "I dunno, 25?"

Ooh, there's an unforeseen loophole (or, with my paranoiac hat on, a great way to sweep up undesirables): you can't have a knife delivered, so you have to collect it in person; you can't have a knife on you in public¹ without good cause, so if a rozzer stops you and decides not to believe that you've just bought the knife and are taking it straight home you're under arrest.

There's precedence for them doing this, too: you used to be able to get air weapons delivered by mail, and now the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 requires that all purchases are made in-person with a Registered Firearms Dealer (RFD). (A couple of companies get around this by registering their delivery drivers as RFDs, which is a clever loophole.)

¹: Section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 allows for you to carry a folding knife with a cutting edge no longer than three inches without good cause (i.e. for any reason at all), with case law later defining any folding knife with a locking mechanism (not a retention mechanism like a slipjoint, but a mechanism which requires you to push, pull, or otherwise actuate something other than the blade such as a liner lock) as a fixed-blade knife for the purposes of S139. However, Section 1 of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 states that it is illegal to have an 'offensive weapon' in public, with 'offensive weapon' loosely defend as 'any article made or adapted for use for causing injury to the person, or intended by the person having it with him for such use by him or some other person.'

In other words, a pocket knife which is legal to carry in public under Section 139 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988 may be illegal to carry in public under Section 1 of the Prevention of Crime Act 1953 if an officer decides you were carrying it for the purposes of poking someone with it. See also: car keys carried between the knuckles, a walking stick raised to strike, false teeth(!) used to bite someone...

I guess that could easily be sorted though. If retailers have to use a certain packing/box to pack them in they could put a couple of cable ties around the packing/box and then simply add a law to state that if the ties are broken etc.

Mind you saying that I will never forget the police stopped me on my BMX and said I was "All over the place" (because I was street riding and doing tricks) and then searched me and tried to arrest me for "going equipped" because I had some tools on me. I explained that if I got a few miles from my house and something went wrong with the bike I would have to repair it there and then, or walk home. I don't quite think they understood the principles of BMX street and how hard it was on a bike. I mean, I'd have been thrilled if I had ridden three miles to do a gap and then the back wheel was knocked out of alignment and I would have to drag it home.

You get your shiny new knife home and discover that the handle isn't attached. Wat do? You couldn't investigate it in the shop 'cos you're not allowed to undo the cable ties; you can't take it out in public to take it back to the shop. Yer stuffed.

I meant inspect it in shop before the seals/tags are added. Or, just use a clear box.

Edit. Or you could just use that tamper proof packing that you have to cut off with scissors. /palm own face.

Which massively increases the time it takes a staff member to sell a knife and requires training on the addition of the seals and/or security tags, which for a £1 collection of steak knives means it's no longer profitable for the shop to sell 'em. Congratulations, the cost of buying a kitchen knife just doubled.
Which doesn't allow you to actually inspect it to see if the handle is properly attached. (This is, incidentally, why decent knife packaging is either not-tamper-proof so you can take the knife out and inspect it or has the handle sticking out of the packaging a-la Kitchen Devils, so you can hold the handle and get a feel for the knife.)

Don't get me wrong, these problems are not insurmountable - the Kitchen Devils packaging would probably suffice, being partly tamper-proof - but it shows that whomever is proposing the change to the law hasn't thought it through.

Yeah it's all stupid G tbh. I mean what next? ban strips of metal and grinders etc? If these kids can't find/buy weapons then they will simply make them, like people do in prison.

What is needed is some cash flow into these "ghetto" areas. Honestly, of all the things we could learn from America's mistakes we've not learned bugger all on ghettos, murders etc. I know this isn't knife crime/stabbing related but the statistics paint a very black picture.

I was reading that this morning, and was actually disgusted at the human race (yet again, it never fails to let me down.. At least once a day).

This isn't fooking Ebeneezer Scrooge times.

This new knife law is not about actually preventing knife attacks, it's about being seen to be doing something about preventing knife attacks, in the eyes of Mumsnet / Daily Fail / etc.

And will be as effective as the extremely expensive 'War on Drugs' which over decades has done little. How is this law going to reduce the access to knives, a quick scan of my kitchen drawers shows that like most people I have loads of lethal weapons?

IIRC you're more likely to be fatally stabbed with a screwdriver than a knife... or get slashed to **** with a box cutter/stanley knife...

...posted in the right thread this time :/

FFS. So since about 4pm this afternoon I have been looking for a new CPU/board etc. I looked at a ton of workstations, but none of them were dual 8 core. I looked through tons of other crap, then about 10pm whilst I was watching TV in bed I searched for V4 Xeons (Broadwell EX). Any way so I find this CPU for £369. Wanted to check out boards to see if it would work so I got up out of bed and put my desktop on. Looked at the Cinebench score (2150) then the CB 11.5 score. Ran the bench myself, my CPU is 1/3 of the power. Now I am getting excited. Last thing I wanted to do was run this chess benchmark I found the score for, to compare to my stock 5820k.

    And I got a virus.

Not just any old virus either. First it put around 30 shortcuts on my desktop. Then it started opening programs, then it kept opening my browsers. All of them.

I started to run Malwarebytes and it got to around 180 viruses found before I get this blue Windows Activation screen asking for my location and my Windows serial. Um yah, don't think so. Problem is this thing keeps opening before MBAM can finish.

So I installed Avast, and quickly as I could set it to scan on reboot. The scan failed, citing corrupted files. FORK ! Booted back into Windows with Avast running and it managed to keep the wolves at bay whilst MBAM worked its magic. over 1500 instances found in the end. Deleted them all, rebooted, Windows then starts hurling notifications that pretty much every program on Windows was corrupt. It had to reset all of my default apps and download a few bits and bobs. Cracking ! go to open Edge so I can download Chrome.. Closes straight away. It's FUBAR.

In the end I managed to use Avast's safe browser to DL chrome and I'm finally back. Lost all of my passwords, bookmarks etc.

I wouldn't even be so peeved if it was pron I was looking at, or at least something sorta naughty. But chess? FFS.

Greetings Professor Falken... How about a nice game of chess?

    Why don't you f**k off !

Not so much ruining my life, but an irritation. The new Doctor. Irrespective of whether or not I think it's a good decision to have a female Doctor I am completely sick and tired of seeing post after flaming post by supposed feminists etc announcing that finally all the little girls who watch can finally not be just the companion, but the actual lead. Which is all well and good, but they all seem to be forgetting that all their little boys just lost a role model. It seems that a lot of people are feminists when the outcome just suits them.

All their little boys have twelve role models, the same number they had last week; nobody's taking away the older Doctors Who.

(This same argument can be found with things like the Ghostbusters reboot: how exactly does it "ruin your childhood" when you can still watch the original Ghostbusters (which is way better than the reboot) any time you want?)
