I have a diddly little Canon EOS M. I like it nice little mirrorless affair. Anyway it has a silly lens mount an EF-M, now I have an adaptor which means I can fit EF lenses. Question is which? I am getting a hood as well been advised to get one by a few people.
I had that Tamron lens on a Canon 5D mark 2 before, okay lens for stationary subjects, good value lens. I then bought a second hand 70-200 F4 IS L, it was fantastic, but expensive for what it does. I'm now on Fujifilm X series, using Fuji 55-200 F3.5-4.8 OIS. It is as good as the Canon L lens, but cheaper and lighter. Canon and Nikon lenses tend to be expensive compared to Tamron/Sigma for no good reason other than being first party. For non-premium lenses, I'd go for Tamron or Sigma. Besides, the Canon lens you really want is the 70-300 USM. The 75-300 is a really old design.
I just sold a Canon EF 75-300 Lens, i will be brutally honest and say don't bother. The images are soft and the sharpest you will get it will approx F8 at 75mm. Corners are really soft. I moved to a second hand L lens (24-105 IS L) and the difference is night and day. If you can, I would highly recommend saving a little more for the glass even second hand from a reputable supplier. I've heard L lens glass coupled with the Canon M range is an excellent combination for travelling and reducing weight.
I don't mean to threadjack, but in the vein of camera lenses. 70-200 f2.8 or f4 for moving objects like cars?
Did some research that is a very good and light lens, just annoyingly out of my price range at the moment, I've picked up a second battery an a grip. Lens wise I've ended up with a Canon EF-S 55-250 mm f/4-5.6 IS STM Lens used from the land of eBay. Its STM so there's going to be a little noise but that's not an issue. weight wise its 375g. As you said the image quality isn't all that good with that lens I found a lot of people mentioning the optics being poor quality and dropping off dramatically if you go new the zoom. Only thing I'm debating now is a lens hood an some filters.
My opinion is 100% that the best 'budget' zoom out there is the 55-250 STM. It's a cracking lens for the money and the IS works very well indeed. Having owned it in the past I would go for the lens hood and not bother with a filter for the front element as the hood is so deep it protects the front of the lens well enough imo.
The 24-105 F4 L IS is incredibly good, it came as kit lens on my 5D2. It just works for all situations. The 70-200 F4 L IS is great. I wouldn't want to spend any more for the heavier 2.8 unless I absolutely need that 1 stop of light (eg. shooting moving cars at night)
L lenses are pricey but you often get what you pay for with lenses - especially full frame lenses. That's not to say that there aren't bargains out there but even then they can often lack in one department or other.

Fantastic I really enjoyed that lens - only sold it as I moved to full frame. Really smooth zoom action which was nice and good picture quality too.
