Hi there Just wondering is there any (good) alternative of Mac display for photo editing? I seems not to find anything. please share your experience and thought on this. Thanks a lot! Obaid
When you say "photo editing" what specifically do you mean? Is the editing part of a colour managed workflow? If not, it doesn't really matter what you use as the colour fidelity is pretty much irrelevant (it will print very differently from what you see on the screen).
How much do you want to spend? If price is no object, get a Eizo. But to tell you the truth, a monitor calibrator (like a Spyder) is more important than a fantastic monitor. Ideally you want both though.
I work for a large photographic company which specialises in portrait and group images. We use LaCie 526 monitors in our department for colour adjustment and editing. The monitors are calibrated using a Spyder. It's also worth mentioning that the office has daylight bulbs. At home I use a Dell Ultrasharp U2410f and could calibrate it with an X-Rite i1 if I could be bothered to reinstall the drivers. I also have daylight bulbs at home running at 6500K. Unless you want to spend all the dollar; look for displays with IPS panels, preferably 16:10 ratio and connect using DVI-D. HDMI connections on Nvidia cards bug out and mess with the gamma. I'd guess it's the same for AMD or whoever owns ATI these days as it's largely a timing thing.
It really does depend on your budget. Also I would leave some money for a calibrator of some sort. A property calibrated screen makes a world of difference Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
