Okay guys, I have narrowed this down in my mind, but before I make a decision i would like to hear from you guys. these are all around the same price, that is not the issue. I am mainly going for a smaller, portable laptop that can still handle the occasional CS Source game, but still has a great battery life (2-4 hours). These are all nice machines, but I'd say the T43, for sure. It's far thinner and lighter than the rest. Also, Acer are unreliable, Alienware makes you look like a prick, that HP won't play css very well, and the Sony has a lower res screen and weighs a tonne, leaving the Toshiba and IBM which are cool. Sure you don't want an Asus of similar spec? ch424
I was not aware that Asus made laptops. Are they any good? How is the battery life? Is it anywhere as small and thin as the IBM? And where do you get them? The site you linked did not sell them! But it sounds like a cool option. Thanks, Jacob
ASUS are the best built laptops I've ever seen. You can see that W3V has good specs, and the battery life is pretty good. The site I linked was the asus website, and they have a where to buy page. It appears that the big people like TigerDirect, NewEgg and ZipZoomFly have them, I dunno who the other big people are in the US though. Some companies in the UK allow you to configure them with RAM, proc. etc, so maybe someone in the US does too; check. Yes, the W3 and W6 series are pretty thin and very light. ch424
I can'tstress onough how much i would recommend the 14.1" 1400x1050 screens over th others. You will really notice thesize and weight difference if you intend on carrying them about. I really liked my t21 but it just grew long in the tooth. IBM make really nice machines so i'd go for the t43.
Yes very, very nice -- and all the reviews agree. You might want to get some more RAM for it though, to put it up to 1GB. By the way, that RAM may not be 100% the correct stuff. All the info I could find was it needs to be DDR2 400 laptop RAM, and that fits those parameters. ch424
Alright, I have it narrowed down to (1) Sony (2) Asus (3) IBM The Alienware is a bit to "showy" for me. I dont want this thing stolen! However, I believe that it would have the best performance. The Acer is out of it due to all the problems that I have heard of them having. If someone has heard otherwise about the Ferrari in particular, I am all ears. I have heard nothing about Asus before today, so I am putting Sony first. I dislike the IBM for lack of graphics, so it is #3 Out of those three, what now? Should I just get a Sony and eat the blue tooth? Or should I gamble on an Asus? This is frustrating! Thanks for all your help guys.
other option that you could have is something like the aopen 1559 barebones and you build the pc you want around it.
out of those three definetly the asus, i wouldn't go for an IBM personally, we have them at school and there horrible.
i have been doing some looking around and for almost the same price for the Area-51® m5500 System you can get the Area-51® m5700 System with a 17 in screen as well as an sata hd.
Just a word about the Sony. the link you gave didnt work, so i went and found it and it said this. The NVIDIA® GeForce™ Go 6200 with TurboCache™ ensures your games and images are crisp and sharp. No 6800, it infact woudl have pretty rubbish graphics. the Ferrari has been given great reviews, look on Toms Hardware Guide as well. Asus notebooks look lush though. So an Asus or the Ferrari would be my choice.
That's where I am at. I am leaning towards the Asus. Still waiting at admission to school before i can get it.
I'll agree that the Asus is probably your best bet. I do love the style of Toshiba though. Maybe that's why I am in Japan right now.
