Project Leightweight started over a year ago when i was just a keen veiwer of modding forums nd had no skills what so ever so it started as a N00b mod lol started of like this a year ago. And i cut a window and painted the inside i only fitted plexi in the window a month or two ago but have been using it as my main PC for around 6months. this is how its setup at the moment. yup those big Speakers ar hooked up2 the computer and yes im going to get a new desk (hopefully today ) Yesterday i ordered some carbon fibre vinyl to cover the front of my PC, i should be getting a peice 1mx61cm so there will be enough for smaller mods like a carbon fibre mouse so hope to get the delivery tomorrow and what do you think of my setup. [need a new name.. suggestions!]
i know i once thought to make a full carbon case from scratch (real carbon not vinyl) and thats the name ive been thinking to give it. but i gave up on the idea cause carbon conducts electricity and i would have lots of EMI problems. so you can have it
Thanks ssR, yer that idea passed my head a couple of times, real sheets of carbon look amazing but once again money is an issue with that. i was hopeing to get some real carbon from my Dad for a carbon fibre PSU, because he works at Jaguar and landrover and when i worked there it was all over the place lol but now u raised the fact it conduct electricity im not gunna lol
good paint job however u might wanna post some pics of how the case looks from several angles how it stands at the moment for a better before, during and after modiforcation
just bought a new desk and just put it together, found alot of old games and DVD's under the old desk heres the new setup.
what are those speakers connected to? got a nice amplifier? Case looks nice like this, still wondering what you're going to do to it
okay,so i i should have got the carbon fibre vinyl today but they let me down and because tomorrow is sunday i have to wait another 2days to get it. Last night when i was disembeling the front of my case and all of the drive bays i broke the spring on one of the spring loaded bays and i cant seem to fix it, I've wasted alot of spring pens to try and fix it :S those speakers are connected to my hi-fi (on the floor0 and my PC is connected to the video/aux.
yer, i have a camera phone my digital is charging. last night after my pc was on for about 7 hours it got very very noisy and i found out it was the CPU fan and i was searching on the net and im gunna get this soon. http://eclipse-computers.com/product.aspx?code=HFA-F7 if you can find a quieter and cooler fan for the intel lga775 socket please let me now.
Woke up this morning to find that the Delivery guy hadnt rung the bell to deliver he had only left the note saying to pick it up from the post office. Not cool. So when i got it opened up my parcel tube and found.. stripped down the front of the case. tested on the DVD bezel. tested on the Proccessor aswell. as u can see near the top there where some weird creases, one of which eneded on a drivebay. stuck vinyl on drivebay let it dry as i used soapy water to squeeze the air bubbles out from under the vinyl.Trimmed the dges of and put it on the front. did the rest of them and let them dry. added them all apart from the spring loaded ones. Due to the lack of vinyl experience i had alot of attemps the carbon vinyl started to dissapear. MY JOB FOR TOMORROW. sort these out. and heres the final pics. next to come: Cold Cathodes (white or blue) Proccessor Fan. more 80mm's i will get a digital camera pic. im using my phone atm
looks good man. just thinking about it, i wouldnt think i would like the alternating carbon directions, but that looks pretty good IMO. im not a big fan of fake carbon vinyl, but that twill pattern looks pretty real. good job, and it looks liek ur gonna need another sheet! you have given me the inspiration to use a few pieces of carbon fiber for my sisters case ( i have access to pretty much all the pre-preg carbon fiber that i want). what is this about static electricity and carbon not being good for a computer? would a clearcoat fix this?
Man, I reckon that glossed black look good as it was. You probably should have laid the front bezel w/ drivebays covers on the table and put the carbon fibre vinyl over the top then cut it where you needed to; it just looks really weird with the vinyl going in different directions.
after about doing everysingle bay again with my new technique of soapy water, and smoothing with a creditcard and sticking down the edges with superglue i got this! i also got free mesh! (from a skip over the road ) and im now using that in the window, dont know if i'll keep it there but for now looks good. also bought handles while i was out but where just mm too wide so im just going to use one of them like so.. i tried chroming the handle but there where to many imperfections in it so im spraying it black gloss atm. also will have a carbon strip on it. now, my wireless mouse is quite good but when i paint it the paint goes tacky when im useing it due to the heat from my hand. is there a way of stoping it? is it because i used enamel paint ? heres how it looks. thnx i think that means real carbon fibre so it wouldnt happen to vinyl. i did really like it when it was brand new out of the box but recently its been getting alot of scuf marks and scratches. but when the vinyl starts wearing of in a year or two ill redo the glosss black myself. At the moment theres only two drives that have oposite patterns and it doesnt really bother me much, if it gets on my nerves ill redo them lol. thnx every1
