Gents and ladies .. Just a quick question, my rig is a z68genez Asus Board with a 2600k and two 580's in sli so they will be working at x 16 and x 8 What if any would be the gain in switching out the two 580's for one 590 on the x16 slot?
It is a very small difference and thinking about it more. Isn't a 590 2x 580's on one card therefore they will be sharing x16 between two cards? So 8x each. Probably doesn't work quite like that due to some memory sharing and data uploading to it but I can't see it being noticeable either way.
You'd gain the use of a 4xpci-e slot and the 8xpci-e slot, but lose out on about 600 quid and some performance.
lol bro you must be made of money. its definitely not worth the performance increase if any to drop £600 on a new card just to run it in x16
2 GTX 580's will outperform a 590, even with your x16 and x8 configuration. So you would be mad to change...
No point changing due to the cost and the chance of fire also might as well wait for the next Gen cards now.
