[offtopic] Lay off him...some people may not be able to afford a camera quite as good as yours, so why don't you just deal with it until he might be able to pull together the money to give you better pictures. People come here for help and ideas, not unconstructive criticism. [/offtopic] Looking good so far, keep it up! I'm thinking UV white and green, mainly because UV red tends to turn out UV pink. Nice work, if you need any more crazy ideas, check out my project log (in my sig). Again, !
Yeah its gonna stay white and green for lack of funding lol.. I need to resleeve a few things, and I plan on making custom molex strands for the PSU. I actually turned the bugger upside down right now. So the mobo is on top, psu on bottom. Just messing with it for ideas. I think I kinda like it like that actually though. Who knows, still considering a few things.
nice stuff, its coming along well, dont lock yourself into to many ideas, keep details open, youll find ull think up sumthin better after u do somthing else, its look tops keep it up
Yeah, I've been playin with a lot of different things the last few days. I think I've settled on this for now. Going to make a new metal faceplate like on a CoolerMaster Praetorian. Instead of the dual 80 mm fans in front, its gonna have dual 120's.
Ok so, ditched the Praetorian idea and got some new toys. Dremel clone, very nice,$25 and included flexshaft and about 100 assorted pieces. Mouse sander Bought a 28*30 panel of 1/8 inch lucite. Made a new fan mount for 2 120's Plans Mount Cut out the front of the chieftec for the new mount Installed the mount and put the front cover back on Its not really crooked, just bad picture angle Also cut a new window, got rid of the handle I never use So, making progress. Going to make a similar mount for the 2 80 mms in the back and will also be installing a fan in the window. Not sure if it will be 80 or 120 yet. By the way, the new coolermaster UV fans are SILENT!
Final Direction! I have decided to switch to UV red fans and red cable sleeving. THe majority of the case will be painted white. The drive cage, mobo tray, pci bay filler pieces, i/o panel for the mobo will all be painted red. I am in the process of making turbine style ducts for the 2 front 120 mm fans and also smoothing out the door. I removed the middle decorative panel from the Chieftec door and then cut out the recessed middle portion. I trimmed this down to size and jb welded it in the empty space in the door. Still have to do some filler work, but nice and smooth lookin. I am also cutting holes to stealth the hdd ide cable, the ATX power cable, and the hdd power cable, you can also see where I am going to mount the hdd vertically on the mobo tray. And now, the current state of my rig, relegated to an old Gateway heap (which is the next thing I will mod if I ever finish this that is).
Looks really good... im trying to find a cheiftec style case here in the UK, as the real cheiftecs are at the £50, which is not a price im willing to pay for a midi tower! i got my cheiftec full tower for £20!!! and that was new, but then 3 days after i got it the prices shot up to £60-£70 glad i bought it when i did! i like the aluminium mount idea, i need to do that with my cheiftec fulltower, as i kinda muffed up the cut for the front fans :S
Hope to get most of the bondo work on the front panel done this weekend. Hard to bondo and sand in a dorm room.
Biiiiiig update, lots o' pics. No bondo work done yet, but I'm workin on that. Got all my fans and sleeving supplies in, so I figured I should probably do something with em. The new red uv fans compared to my old psu fans Spliced the fan wires to the 2 pin connector from the psu Close up of the sleeving Halfway there Done with sleeving Inside the PSU lid Fan mounted on PSU lid Close up of finished PSU Whole PSU finished First hole rough cut for front fan mount Both holes rough cut Mount still in its protective plastic wrap, close to finished Mount in place Fans mounted View of the new 120 which will help exhaust air from my CPU cooler View of what I have so far The PSU will be painted white. The frame and case also will be repainted, that old coat of white didn't turn out very well and is deteriorating quickly. Still workin. More pics soon.
Just set the bondo up on the front turbines., will probably start to shape and sand tomorrow morning.
I really like the red and white concept. I'm assuming that you're going to have the door windowed. Just a note on the chassis paint: did you use primer first? That can make a huge difference in the durablility and intergrity of the color. White paint is very difficult to work with. Make sure you wash your hands frequently when handling it, or get a box of exam gloves from the local pharmacy/chemists. The red/white theme seems very anime, possibly robotech/macross style. Perhaps some icons/designs from a Valkyrie would be in order?
