Hello! I need advice on what Cpu / mobo I could use for my new gaming PC. I was originaly looking at getting a q6600 and overclocking it to 3 - 3.2Ghz but they are around £150 now so I really need some help as this is getting a bit silly, it was £130 last month! and £110 the month before :/ Anyway, im looking at making a mid range gaming system Nothing special, but i already have: 4GB DDR2 PC6200 RAM OS( vista Home premium 64-bit) corsair 550W PSU DVD drive 500GB HDD drive A case Cpu cooler ( arctic freezer 7 pro ) So now I just need the CPU Mobo and Gfx card GFX- have pretty much decided that i'm going to get a HD4850 but I'm open to suggestions. CPU and Mobo Suggestions open. I have a max budget of £220 for the combination of mobo and CPU. I can still get a Q6600 from a local retailer that currently are selling it for £145 wich would leave £75 for the mobo, and the mobo i would want to get with this must be able to overclock the q6600 to 3 - 3.2 Ghz . Any other CPU-Mobo combinations are aprciated though Thanks Hodgy100
i'd get the e8400 if i were you, much better for gaming, much less power hungry, and able to run way way faster then a Q6600. The two extra cores are not worth the hassle in a gaming machine. Also, they are cheaper As for the mobo, people seem to like the Asus P45 boards a lot. I'd be looking at a DFI with that chipset, but that's just silly me (fanboi). Basically, for a mid-range gaming machine, get any board with the P45 chipset, and you are good. Check out the Bit Tech buyers guide too in the hardware section. The 4850 seems like a good choice. Do try to stretch for a version with a better cooler though! Oh, final note: if you really like quads, for a budget build the AMD 9850 or 9950 are not a bad option for their pricepont.
Thanks. I think I will end up getting a e8400 now. I just wanted a q6600 because they werent that much more expensive at the time and I dont want to have to upgrade any time soon. Is the MSI P45 Neo-F any good? The hd4850 Im getting does have a different cooler than the stock cards so all should be fine.
I have now bought a Q6600 but now i need to choose a mobo and i only have £75 left the only options i have are: MSI P45 Neo3-FR ASUS P5Q SE/R iP45 Asus P5Q SE2, iP45 Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3 (at a push) p.s sorry for the double post but i didnt want to make a separate topic :s
To be Honest they are all good, if there are any features in any one of them that you would use go for that one.
agreed, just get any one you like and can get your hands on. The difference between them in actual performance is very very tiny. You could always check out Bit-techs reviews
Hodgy, ya considered the new Gigabyte board? GA-EP45-UD3R the new review today looks like a btter choice than the DS3 if it fits your needs.
