RAM RAM RAM!

What kind of ram should I buy for the following setup for the maximum stable overclock:

CPU: Intel Core 2 Extreme 6800 (Might be going for Kentsfield once it's released)
PSU: PC P & C Silencer 750
Video Card: EVGA 8800GTX (will be adding SLi later)
Motherboard: EVGA 680i SLi

I've seen the Mushkin Redline PC2 8000, and the OCZ Titanium Alpha VX2, any recommendations on these or others?

Gskill HZ 6400, Team Xtreem 533 3,3,3,x, Corsair 6400 C4, Geil 6400 C4. Basically cas4 stuff @ 6400 rated at 2-2.2v.

 

I agree Gskill HZ 6400 is the best RAM I have used. And it uses high quality chips.

 

Corsair Dominator, if you're spending that kind of cash.

 

It's seriously not worth bothering with over summit like the HZ or Teamgroup 533 C3 stuff. The Crucial "special birthday edition" stuff isnt bad for the price either.

 

One thing,,

I should not take the kentsfield CPUs because there benchmarks (if you want to game) are not better than the 6800 extreme.
For the memory I would take the crosair Dominator

where is memory that uses D9 chips then ? i thought HZ used that stuff

I'll second the Cosair Dominator 8888-C4. They'll be able to run synchronously with the Core2's default FSB of 1066 Mhz with the nForce 680i chipset. Might even be able to pull that off at 1T command rate. With a 1066 Mhz memory bus, the memory bandwidth is twice that of the FSB but I wouldn't say that it is a waste. The Geforce 8800GTX can write directly to main memory using its own virtual memory system. Once the graphics card is doing that actively, that extra memory bandwidth will be utilized.

 

You'll get the same performance from cheaper memory though. There's not a huge amount of point in spending extra cash on ram that doesnt clock that much better than stuff thats cheaper

 

Assuming that you will be extreme overclocking, the 8888 should be great. If not quite extreme benching, then i'd try something a bit cheaper. Regular Corsair XMS2-6400, 5400, or even 4200 if you aren't overclocking.

 

Even if you are extreme overclocking (which I doubt) you can get better ram for less money.

 

here is my off topic 2 cents, but will make sense!

What you using to cool the CPU? you see these dam thing get really hot when overclocked and well how will you make use of all that speed if it fries its self? you have only got up to a safe 55 degree's (max is 60 if believe)

Oh and kentsfield, biggest waste of money ever! (at the moment)

 

I'm seriously considering Watercooling for this rig. But that might come later, as I'm dropping about $4500 US on the base system. :|
