This is my log that will show the upcoming process of a build allready started, this first post will feature info on what I want to achieve and how far along I am at the moment.

    --------------------

    "Mission"

To create a HTPC that reflects my view upon Scandinavian design,
is space efficient, and aesthetically appealing.
It will handle modern multimedia tasks where the blu-ray format will
be in focus. Though this is very hardware dependant.

    Description

    Simplicity. Light. Scandinavian. Natural

These are the inspiratiopnal word for my project which I call S-HTPC.
It will not be a regular build where a out of the box product is transformed
    intoa new identity

It's Identity will grow along with the product and in the end it will
have a full grown unique identity.

    Function:

Focus on makine a full user experience where the interface which is handled
by XBMC will be fit to become a part of the result. Its graphical appearance
will be based on the outside of the result and the inspirational words.

Since the build is allready started I choose a few pictures that will show the progress from
start to where I am at the moment.

The first simple sketch for my idea, it started the whole "I need it"-process every man
    experiences once in a while.

After some more sketching and CAD-work I got to a point where I wondered if I could
achieve the look of the wood I wanted. The results were pretty damn close and I know
how to get it the last 5 yards too. Incredible!

How does this shape look IRL? Only one way to see if its odd or not, machine the hell out of a piece of scrap wood and see. It being too small was nothing to bother about, but the shape itself behaved as hoped.

Rev.1 of the SSD-rack. It is made for a PSU to be fit between it legs. Simple yet... errrm.. never mind.

Upcoming three pictures is my last work for now. They feature Rev.2 of the chassis design and a render of Rev.3 which vill be the final design to be machined (hopefully)

I love to render, but still I hate it. How odd.

oh i am liking this alot!

Q/. You using solidworks for the CAD? If so what rendering engine you using as it looks nothing like photoview...

Or is it sketchup with an external renderer?

    TY :)

Yes solidworks and its nice sheet metal features.
For rendering I personally just cant stand photoview so Im running 3Ds Max with vray along with a small in-software app for setting it up, called Solidrocks.

But despite nice renderings I prefer to keep it as render-clean as possible :)

Not really a mind blowing update, rather a random discovery.
The look I want for the htpc is kind of a "retro looking" Scandinavian feeling.
So some parts you just find with your heart and not the designer inside.

This is such a detail, saw the connectors and the cable and It instantly triggered my
"THIS FITS" alarm and it was a done deal!

    I couldn't agree more,

Side note: I am cheap so Solidworks export (Stl) into Blender+Cycles engine to render out my work.

When in doublt, just give a **** and dont do it, this is what happens :)

Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes Lady Luck just feels like sneaking up on you and
Chuck Norrising you in the back. This is such a time. Twice today.
But shame on me if I give up. New try tomorrow with all errors fixed!

Today was a better day despite some bad luck, but no biggie :)
The new main part was machined with perfect result, and the result
    is beneath.

    Now it awaits bending.

    Today is a milestone.
The internal construction is complete and fits pretty much perfectly.
Down below is the picture of the build so far.
Now I'll star looking into customizing the skin for XBMC and await wood.

That's really came out well, interesting to see the timber mixed in :D

    EDIT:

Is that an AMD board, if so are you running XBMCbuntu or XBMC on windows?

Well the Ally really isnt a thing that will show much later on.
Some in the front painted white only and the back will be a bit "hidden" by the wood.
Last I heared the Birch is awaiting to be glued and delivered this week/early next week :D

Indeed it is a fusion board. Running Openelec so its based on linux.
Worked like a charm "out of the box".
