This is what worries me about America. Mindless obedience to authority. If a policeman decides he doesn't like you, all your human rights go out the window. That way lies totalitarianism ... The latest incident is 6 capitol police officers roughing up a priest at the Petraeus Hearings... Needless to say, all charges were dropped.. Youtube link. Comedy news site TheSpoof have a amusing take on the story.
Yup, it's the new Democracy™. Public hearings still take place, you just are not allowed attend them, or speak up at them.
Stay out of trouble and you won't have to deal with the police. It's pretty simple really, you obey the law and you don't get in trouble. You say what if the guy died? I ask you what if a guy was carrying a knife or gun and stabbed or shot the police officer? Then all of a sudden you'd feel bad for the cop wouldn't you? I don't think you realize how dangerous it is to be a cop. Especially in todays world were drugs and gangs are even more widespread then before. I for one respect police officers and treat them respectfully. Every cop I have ever dealt with has then treated me the same. You'd be surprised what a positive attitude will get you.....or should I say get you out of when it comes to speeding tickets and what not.
You would hope, but the Rev Yearwood was just queuing to enter a hearing. Some cop takes exception to him and refuses him entry. Then the Rev has a choice. Do the "yessir nosir" and walk away OR protest his rights, get jumped on by 6 cops and arrested. Allegedly he was again refused entry at a later date until a US senator personally escorted him into the hearing. I understand your argument. Subduing a violent or armed suspect is what tasers are designed for, but it doesn't apply to the Kerry demonstrator. He was already restrained by a number of cops. The taser was purely used as punishment once he'd been detailed. I guess it's cheaper to buy every cop a taser rather than train them properly....
