    Hi all,
I am considering to have a bash at H2o cooling, and would like some input into the idea of using Aluminium rather than copper for the block.
I know copper has better heat transfer properties, however Aluminium for me is far more available and easier to work with.
If I used Alu, to make a block with other than copper what would be the diff in Temp between the two, and what other pitfalls or disadvantages would there or could there be?
    help appreciated,

No one is going to be able to tel you the temps
or differences between Alu and Cu on a custom
water block, theres just to many variables. Just
sufice it to say, Cu will be coller that Alu, but if you
take the time to do it right, Alu won't be to bad!!

The cooling properties between the 2 are very small. Infact you'd create a bigger temp drop with a better radiator and fan combo than you will with a waterblock material. I say give it a go!

Thanks bossman, that was the answer I was looking for!
What I am thinking of doing is placing a sheet of 2mm copper on the bottom and annodising the aluminium to stop corrosion.
shall be intersting to see what I can muster.
    Now the Radiator!!!!

the biggest problem you will find is with corrosion... so e sure u get a perfect anodize...

i think you will get better temps with all copper as long as ur getting an okay flow of water
