I saw a Tutorial way back on how to remove the IDE cable from the xbox and replace it with a newer one... Does anyone have a link to a tutorial that shows how this is done ?
Open up the box rip out hte old one and replac with spangly new one if i remember right isn't it the same as a normal IDE havn't opened the box for a while now
I don't have an Xbox but remember reading that they just use normal cables and hard disks. In the article I read the person had 3 large hard disks and a switch to change between them...
Yeah, unless you need to there won't be any point, replacing an ATA100 cable with ATA133 won't make it any faster. Although if you paint some stripes...
Looked into this a little more and apparently the Xbox cable is ATA33 and supposedly replacing it with a faster cable improves loading times. Though claims of 1 or 2 seconds faster in loading a Halo level, or 50secs (out of 15mins+) in ripping a whole music CD to disk are unproven (i.e. possibly bollox). As the sustained transfer rate of a HDD is so little replacing the cable will possibly only increase the peak transfer rate. If you think voiding your warranty is worth these 'huge' improvements in speed then go for it, personally I'd wait for the warranty to expire and then only if I was really bored... Suprisingly typing 'replacing xbox ide cable' into google produces allot of results.
#Kermet Well... since there really ain't no warranty on my xbox, since it was my mom who won it through her job... Better get on modding my xbox... first thing is gonna be the IDE cable, then a bootchip... just don't know which one yet...
Ok, that makes more sense. I guess M$ was already losing enough money with the xbox, and that would be an extra $1.00 on each xbox they would lose.
Well, it's like many other things (e.g. other consoles, printers & ink) it's not the Xbox that makes the money, it's the games.
