Quick question, im doing a mod in a really confined space in which a standard PSU won't fit, and Im too cheap to buy a specialist small PSU so have taken it apart (safley, left it to drain for a few weeks, checked it etc) and all seems cool, and I have a small cardboard box that it all fits into perfectly! the only problem is I can't rewire the earthing cables to it cos its cardboard (duh!) and the case its going to be inside is plastic so nothing to earth to, will this be a problem? and are there any major flaws in my Gehtto Budget mod that I should know about? Cheers, Mord.
I'm running a PSU in a wooden case with the ground wire not attached to anything and I haven't noticed any problems so far, but I also would like to know if this could have any bad effects...
The black wire in the molex is connected to ground on most if not all parts that are used in a pc. Because of this, all parts should be grounded. If you want more grounding, just to be sure, you simply add a screw to the screwholes, and run a wire from screw to screw on the different components. Does this answer your questions?
make sure your cooling that psu well. It could be very dangerous if it caugh fire. Also the psu should be grounded.
that reminds me a long ago i maded a pc case in cardboard. double sided tape and ducktape was used to keep it togheter
I recomend that you fix one of the motherboards standoffs onto the PSU earth, just to be safe. You may also need to wire an earth to the PSU PCB as it might have been earthed through the case (which is now gone) But it should be fine.
