I'm changing the heatsink on my CPU, and I'm wanting to know what kind of alcohol is needed to remove the thermal grease? So far suggestions have been Surgical Spirit (Methanol and ethanol), isopropyl or rubbing alcohol. Which one would be the best option?

Isopropyl is alright but for best results go to this site and get some arcticlean its £6.95 + VAT. I use this and it works extremly well and it also purifys the surface. This will also last for quite a few chnages.
Smells like oranges aswell thats a bonus :D
    Hope this helps :thumb:

Any of them. Dunno what rubbing alcohol is though, but surgical spirit or isopropyl are all around the same thing.

£7 for a small tub of isopropyl roffles. We used to pay that much per 2.5l in the labs iirc

Pop down to a local chemists and grab a bottle of Isopropyl alcohol... Cost me ~ 4 quid for 1/2 a litre, its great stuff, cleans anything off anything lol!

You can even use water-though you may want to make sure that its absolutely positively COMPLETELY dry before heatsink installation ;)
