Can anyone at York Uni confirm that you can use any kind of webcam or voicechat service over the network?
Only video and voice on yahoo chat works afaik, msn webcams don't. Read the sns page I linked to for more details. VirtBlue - Never tried to tunnel using smtp or pop3 as I never had the need to. I doubt skype works but again have never tried. But anyway who needs webcams when you have real people to talk to! P.s what college are you going to be in?
I think most universities have banned skype because it ends up using your computer as a supernode due to the university's high bandwidth connection.
Tunnelling programs certainly used to work on the York network (I used one for a while in my first year so that I could get onto IRC), though their use is against the student network terms and conditions. At one point they actually sent an e-mail around reminding everyone of this - I think the admins cottoned on to the fact that some people were using them to connect to P2P networks and were using a fair amount of bandwidth.

Well as you may have guessed I'm already there Just going into my second year and am doing an economics degree. Have you had your accomodation forms through that tell you what college you are in etc?
