Some of you may or may not know that I'm currently soaking up the rays in the Far East at the moment, taking a well earned two week break from the review dungeon.

Yesterday I met with one of the new PR managers at ABIT - learnt some interesting things about ABIT and where they are heading in the future. He's very new to Taiwan, so we took the time to do some sight seeing by taking a trip up the Taipei 101. It is the World's tallest building with the world's fastest elevator/lift that travels at a rather crazy 1010 metres per minute.

We were very fortunate because it was an uncharateristically clear day in Taipei - there's normally lots of cloud in the sky because of the humidity (usually around 80-100%).

The last picture is the viewable counter balancing mass inside the Taipei 101 - it hangs from the 93rd floor down to the 87th floor IIRC. Weighs about 550 tonnes and is supported by 16 steel cables that are each about 9cm thick.

I'm off to visit the mountains this afternoon and then off to Thailand tomorrow morning for a few days. Me and my girlfriend are going to a small resort called Phuket (pronounced Pucket) towards the south of Thailand. It was badly affected by the Tsunami, but it was also where one of the James Bond films was recorded (I forget which one though) - I can't wait, it's supposed to be absolutely beautiful.

Nope, I was on the observation floor in the Taipei 101 - it's the world's tallest building at the moment (in one way or another). There is one in China that will be bigger soon as far as I understand - it'll be completed this year.

I've got some pictures of Taipei from another place 500m+ above sea level too, but I'll have to process those later on. I went to the mountains on the edge of Taipei this afternoon. :thumb:

Wow... that would suck if that counter balance were to fall...
Personally... you wouldn't catch me anywhere towards the top of that building unless I took the stairs. I absolutely HATE elevators.

Nice pics! Good to see your out and about, and not staring at graphics cards and pc screens ;)

37.6 miles per hour in a lift? Insane.

Nice photos bigz and thats a really fast elevator lol.

Same here, ever since the freigh lift at an old building I was helping renovate into condos (the lift was reconditioned) droped 3 feet while I was loading my tools into it. I've never jumped so far in my life (from the rear of the elevator back onto the floor) and ever since I cant ride in an elevator without freaking out. (unless its one with glass windows to the outside or a courtyard type thing) I just get flashbacks of Resident Evil when I get in one.
