arg i dont have the money for anything like that. is there anything i can do without getting a new psu?

every time i try it in a new connector or if i leave the PC off for a little while it works for a little bit longer.

If i could get a 9200 could that test the psu?

It's still sounding like the PSU. Using a low end card like the 9200 might help becuase of its lower power demand, but your only to be hurting yourself in the long run. It is possible for the PSU to totally crap out and take all your components with it. Just get a new PSU, and a good name brand one that has good reviews. Do the PSU swap yourself as a computer store is likely to use another cheapo PSU and rip you off for it.

    Take a look at this:
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817153006

Its cheap and will power your parts no problem.

That happened to a good friend of mine.

His PSU failed, took his motherboard, graphics card (at the time it was the best you could get) optical drives and one of his hard drives.

    The repair bill wasn't pretty!

I definitely think it's the power supply. Flaky power will cause this sort of intermittent and difficult-to-diagnose problem.
