my speakers weren't working, and i thought they blew (i don't know how old they are, got them secondhand) because they look old. but M.C. Frontalot has a new CD (actually his first real one, there is a live album out, but it sucks) and i wanted to listen to the "pr0n song" teaser, and since the speakers were blown, i plugged my headphones into the speaker header on the mobo. no sound. i reinstalled the audio drivers (came with the mobo, an ASUS IS-7G. it's an AC'97 codec) and restarted at the prompt, and still no sound. is this permanent? i got the mobo about 6 months ago and should still be under warranty. i need my nerdcore!!! PS, guess which rapper i was plugging in this post.
a high pitched squeek is now the only thing that sounds. i think that is speakers, since when i hooked up the headphones there wasn't any squeek. could something have happened to the speakers that damaged the mobo? i'm going to try the registry thing that reboots with old settings, maybe the earliest setting i have will be alright. heres hoping.
Make sure that wave isn't muted in the audio control panel. Un-mute anything in there and make sure the volume sliders for each thing are at least a bit up.
for a while there i couldn't even boot. hopefully reinstalling XP reapired the problem. heres hoping... crap, still screeching. oh well, i can get a cheapy pair from target tomorrow. at lease it boots!
i tried to play an audio file i knew worked, which was my copy of the buzzcocks "what do i get?", using the audio player that my motherboard CD came with (when i installed the audio driver) it said: when i clicked advanced this came up what do i do?
it's onboard, but not working anymore. this is just my parents computer, but it's the only one with internet unitl i can get my dad to get off his lazy ass and DO something on the weekends.
how could that happen? how can it be fixed? i've been in BIOS a lot lately, and don't remember any "disable any sound no matter how much you want to listen to music" option, at least not one with a "Y" next to it
evidently the onbound sound is damaged, you can try sending it under warrenty to get repaired (which i suggest) or you could be lazy and buy a sound card.
i think i'll try to get it repaired. how good is ABIT's warranty coverage? i'm always on a surge protector, and it didn't trip. there haven't been any electrical disturbances lately that coincided with the problem, and i rarely have it above normal volume (normal like loud enough to hear, but the neighbors can't)
doesnt matter, stuff breaks all the time within its realm of use. just email abit and explain the problem
whenever i have CS problems, i just hang up and call back until i get someone with two brain cells to rub together. i gave up after 6 hours for microsoft though.
