PFFF, I'm speechless, as usual in front of the tidyness of this mod, simple and so mind bogling... I bow Defyant, very very low
thank you guys well here it is!!! the final posts for now... looking @ STORM'D i really wasnt happy with the side rings!and since i decided to remove the "side panel fans" altogether and run them as "passive vents" i decided that a bit more "storming" was needed! Decided to replace the whole side panel with a nice new peice of 6mm thick #512 tinted plex. I also decided to to a bit more STORMing of the internals! First off this morn was a trip to the plastix, to pick up the 3 new peices of plex. Next was to start on what will be the new side STORM rings. ive decided to make 4 and have a couple spare for the next mod!!! Using the same technique as bfore, its just a ,matter of cutting a 120mm x 10mm thick plex ring then using a 80mm cut the centers out the these These will be put to good use later!
After some routing and drilling It's time for some countersinking you can clearly see that the countersinking leaves a ugly hole! some good old flame shining will fix that! the end result is a much cleaner looking hole
i'll be going back and running the good old FLAT TYPE M2 SS HEX Heads Altho i wont be running fans this shot is just to show that the bolts all line up with standard 80's Next was again to make up some cleaner grills, trimmed these will bolt down under the rings and the new panel. Next to mark the new side panel for cutting
Some flaming to clean up the nasty edges And now the ring assembly I think this is a cleaner looking assembly and will workin a lot better with whats to come.
The other 2 tinted plex panels will be used to cover the CDROM/pump area and the STORM duct area The 2 panels are drilled and matching holes are threaded Holes are also drilled to allow access to the PUMP bracket and HDD bracket The panel is bolted in popper The bottem panel is also bolted in
Next is to glue in the sexy clear ring!!! Remove the paper and bolt in the lower panel. A super clean look! with great contrast of the green tubes on a glossy black background Next was to put on the STORM'D letters. These are Custom printed silver vynal stick on letters. Damm!! this really wasnt easy.... and i may have them redone and placed on by pro's
Next was the large logo lettering! Nearly 20 mins later Some more inside shots, as much as i liked the look of the DUCTS i also like the clean look of the all black interior...the shine off the plex is really incredible. and the addition of the small plex ring becomes a main feature!
Hell yeah! The ring kinda seems to bring the Asus logo to you eye. You just can't look away. This is indeed a lucky kid... with a little to red eyes imo. Great work! You're kinda plexi god.
awesome job man! i look great, so if zak has that pc what happened to the sweet LANboy case you worked on for him?
We sold the lanboy in the local forums to a proud new owner ") the sale generated a lot of interest and i ended up biulding 2 very similar spec mods as requests! i'll adopt yas all eventually ! but first im still struggling with the 20 local neighbours then theres the mates Zak bring home from school daily, I took afew more final and last shots for now. i think the case pics best against black rather than the white ive been using. Damm ive just relised theres a new forum!!!! i'll update worklog there asap.
Project: S T O R M D Replies here **FINAL PICS** Read on for full worklogs. ********************************************************** ********************************************************* As promised STORM'D is the second in the series of plex "theme" case mods. Storm'd is based on the newer model Sunbeam LED UV blue plex case this time and again will feature "Bolt on" type machined plex highlights as well as some Storm features to keep it t theme case The Sunbeam case was chosen for its extra features and the fact that its main outer structure is held together using 4 solid looking metal rails... these shiny metal rails have a great contrast against the clear plex and will fit in nicely with what i have planned. Due to all the "one off" fabrications that need to be done with STORM'D i won't be able to finish it as fast as PeRs-pLeXeD! but hope to have a finished product by weeks end Sunbeam put a quality package together and you really do feel its Xmas when you get this home and open it!.....well xmas with that "ikea feel about it"!!!! You can also see just like PeRs-pLeXeD! the main feature of the case will be its 2 dual front 120mm UV fans! this time i'm going with the purple, as this colour fits in well with the STORM theme, NOW! @ this stage of the mod! i have 2 trains of thought about it! the first is to use the dual 120's the other is to use Dual 80's! with 120mm outer shouds.... i will first fabricate up the 80 and shrouds as im very keen to see how this will look! if i don't like the effect from the dual 80's then i can move onto the 120 idea. Back to the modding The front of the case... to give it a more appealing hevier look will get a custom laser cut outer frame. the frame will be beveled @ 45 dgree on the router and dilled with counter sunk M5 Steinless steel hex heads. To compliment and fitin with the front theme a smaller frame will also be installed to surround a pr of counter sunk Dual custom made "defyant style " STORM RES's. LEFT front frame RIGHT top res frame. The finish on these custom laser cut frams is class all the way! You can see the idea of how i want the frame to sit! the frame will still be beveled drilled countersund and flame polished again.
Replies here First off it's the top Res frame that gets a pimping. The frame with the STORM RES's. The frame will sit around the 50mm OD x 180mm STORM RES's will sit down into the top of the case and be "half in and half out" The STORM RES frame is taken over to the router and given 45dregee outer edging M5 SS Marine HEX heads all the way for STORM'D
