    Hello,

    Radeon 9800 Pro -
I am searching the component name of a certain chip on the card.

The chip is a 8-leg small chip, which is covered with a heatsink, located near the molex connector...

my chip is burnt, so I cant read the text on it,
so please, if you can, try to red it on yours, or maybe from a PCB layout PDF ?

    so many thanks,
    Avner

Hello mate. I had nearly the same problem, but I broke down this component during disconnecting of power suply connector. This chip is MOSFET from Fairchild FDS6912. You can order sample MOSFET FDS6912A (working too, A at the end - I dunno what it means but its working with FDS6912 and FDS6912A so, no problem) from Fairchild company, they will pay all shipments etc (I dunno how it is today but in time I needed it they sent to me free) I told my friend if he can solder this MOSFET back, he did it (cause he work with electronics) by "second glue" I glued passive cooler onto and working again with my Radeon :) hope this help you. Tell me if you suceed with Fairchild about sample MOSFET order.

try to register and order sample... hope it is still possible...

no, they didnt. Just sent samples (there was two or three mosfets, I dunno exactly) and that was all. For Fairchild is shimpent and price of 3 mosfets embarrassing, cause they sell this electrical things for thousands pieces, so, for our "small end-users" its superb stuff when we are in problems like this. THX FAIRCHILD ;)

Smilodon: the thing is you cant buy so concrete stuff in any electro shop. At least, here in Czech Republic not. Here is only ONE seller which sells this MOSFETs and minimal ammount was 2500 pieces of MOSFETs, so, I had to be "cheapskate" ;) cause u cant order 1 or 2 and sell it, so small amount only for sample. So, it was the best stuff I could want ;) but yep, when is way how to not be a cheapskate, buy and dont be ;)
