Networks DHCP server help

    i have read about something called a DHCP server, can someone tell me what this does and how to go about setting one up ??

    Simple definition: Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. A TCP/IP protocol that dynamically assigns an IP address to a computer.

    There are two ways of getting an IP address for your local machines; either manually statically configured and will not change, or it can be automatically obtained dynamically. It will be assigned an address by the DHCP server.

    Why do you want one? I mean, if you don't know what it is, why do you think you need it to be set up? Just wondering :>

    just saw it in another thread and was just curious if it could make my network more efficient than it currently is
