    Dear Mr Mark Devlin,

Your peak-time P2P, FTP and Usenet usage has exceeded the first level of
the Broadband Premier usage policy. To find out more about the published
    usage limits please go to
    http://www.force9.net/support/broadb...nagement.shtml

Level 1 management has been applied to your service during peak hours for
P2P, FTP and Usenet. All other protocols are not affected by this change to
    your service.

Your Broadband service will continue to be managed until your next billing
date at which time peak-time usage management will be removed. If your peak
usage continues to increase further peak-time usage management levels may
    be applied to your service.

In order to avoid further management levels we would advise you to reduce
your usage and schedule large downloads outside the hours of 8am to
    midnight.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Can someone tell me what to make of this? IM positive when i signed up i signed up to premier service with no cap at all.

Now whats the hell is this about and can anyone direct me to somewhere else as i do not want to be part of this company anymore.

What service are you using, Broadband Plus or Premier?

I've got Broadband Plus and when I signed up it said nothing about download limits. The other month the internet became really slow, a speedtest reported I was getting speeds less than 56K and regular timeouts. I opened a support ticket and they had the line checked out etc.

Couple of days later they replied saying the service wasn't designed for my usage, my bandwidth had been throttled during peak times and I must upgrade to Broadband Premier if I want it back to normal.

What makes it worse is there's an £80 cancellation fee, it reduces to £60 in a couple of months time :worried:

I threatened them with trading standards as I've done the same amount of downloading since I joined up last year and it's never been a problem, so why raise the issue now? I don't do alot of Torrenting/ P2P anyway as that's already throttled.

Needless to say, my net has been returned to normal :p Hope you get it sorted out :thumb:

this has been talked about here befor. and is talked about constantly on the plusnet forums.

basicly there were to many people leaching the crap out of there connection and other people were suffering. so they brought in some limits-

30 gig peak time per month thats 4pm to midnite then you get slower speeds. on peer to peer protocols

however these limits are changing all the time first it was 30/100. not its this and they are set to change yet again.

but tbh most other places have limits already. there are very few providers left that dont, unless you pay more.

Most companies have a fair usage policy, although they say there are no caps, i reality there are at peak times.

Have a read at the terms and conditions, it will be hidden in there somewhere.

yea there is a limit now for onpeak, it was changed, off peak is uncapped, pissed off with them, we'd leave only the activation was deferred so we have to pay it when we leave. :(

Im on the premier service. I dont mind paying more. But i will not stay with them. And they can try and charge me a cancellation fee if they wish. But i will not be paying them it and will be happy to send them a letter from my solicitor.

From reading the plusnet forums they are not scared to go the whole hog to get there money if you leave.

if you dont pay you would be in the wrong. which means no matter what your solicitor writes you will end up losing. and if it goes to court that would mean you would cop all of the legal fee's as well.

the smart thing to do would be to stick it out untill the end of your contract. and just make sure you download your big files off peak.

just pay them and leave, they have done nothing illegal and as such would win a court case over it, also what IF plusnet were able to show what you were downloading to the court, in some peoples cases this could be worse than a ~£70 leaving fee maybe??

Yep, i'd just pay the cancellation as it aint worth the hassle.

When the fee becomes cheap enough for me i'll be straight out :)

Is Zen any good, then? I've been on +net for a few years and never had any bother tbh, but then I don't dl craploads. I think I've only ever gone over 30gb in one month once and that was well before all the fup business kicked off.

Plusnet are too cheapskates to upgrade their pipes to handle all the downloading so they introduce caps/throttling.

Zen on the otherhand, are great :D

my mate has 2mb pipex and he gets terrible speeds. Usually 1.1mb and tthe customer service is atrocious.

I applied for my mac code today. They are charging me £14.99 for it as i wasnt with them for the full year and that is it.
