wel ive been reading this forum for the past year or2 and decided to finaly become a member an post my casemod witch i recendly started.

what i wanted to do is buy an old big servercase an mod it so it doesnt look like **** but is still capable of containing all my shares stuff :p
so ist just going to become a fileserver.

about 3 months ago i finaly found something witch i liked and wasnt to expensive on ebay.
here you can finaly see this huge case with all its guts.

its an old p2 266mhz with 64mb ram and 7 scsi drives witch are about 9 Gig each.
and the best part is the redundant powersupply (2x450watt :D )

concidering the case was really dirty i decided to clean it all up to start with and after a white i finaly got to see the ubly white it really is.

ok, so the front is finaly clean, but what about the insides, whel i decided to strip it all and put it aside for the moment (considering the fact that i couldent get the scsi drives to work... :grr: )

got everythin out of the case and got rid of all the dust and the yelow brownish sigarett stuff, (i guess the previos owner was a smoker)
so there i was left with an empty case
    [IMG]

thinking about the fact that the scsi drives arent big enouf for all my data im planning to use standart ide drives for storage, but therefor i had to remove the previos drivebay and rebuild it.

here you can see the markings where the new drives will come
    [IMG]
and ofcours the idea of what i am going to do.

after all the measuring i decided to take out my dremelclone and do some cutting.
after cutting and the neccesairy sanding the support pieces where finaly done
    [IMG]

thats it for today, ill post more progresspics tomorrow from the past 3 months
and srry for the crappy english, im from belgium

    duscusion thread is here

Cutting all those little rest's for the hard-drives is a really clever idea, I'd probably have just drilled holes or something.
What sort of hardware is going in that case then?

concidereing im riveting the drivebay in place i wont be capable to use screws on one side of the drivebay, thas why i use these.
the other side will be drilled, and attatched with screws.

im still thinking about the hardware, for harddrives i will use 200gig drives, best price for storage here.
i was hoping tokeep the original hardware but then ill have to search for more ram (64mb is nog enoug)
maybe ill find a good cheap mobo and cpu on ebay

just like i said, toningt another update on all the studff ive been doing in the past 3 months.

concidering the fact that bare electronics on the bottom of a hd and a piece of metal dont come along verry well, ive decidet to isolate them, and put some Umold aroud the feets, so there isolated
    [IMG]
on this foto you can also see how mutch space there is between 2 drives, its about 0.5cm (0.196850394 inch if you ask google)
after that i dident do mutch becaus i got a new toy for my game-rig
    [IMG]
got is from ebay vor 200€, a nice 6800gt with 256mb ram :D so that was a nice motivation to play hl² and nfs mw
i also bauht some shelves to clean up my computerroom

my parent were complaining about everything laying on the floor.

than about a mont ago i decided to continue modding and went to the local hobbyshop and computershop and baught an alu plate and some fans
    [IMG]

hmmmm 3 nice blue 120mm led fans :)

here you can see where there gonna be placed, in front of the harddrives
all those drives are gonne get hot without some airflow.

the alu plate you saw some pics ago is gonna become my new fangrill for the fans, i cutted it to size (srry no pics of this) :dremel:
taped it all off and drawed a nice design on it
(for the naruto/animefans, yes thats a sharingan)
and after about 2 to3 houers of hard work, some cutting and filing you get something like this
    [IMG]
and with a fan behind it
    [IMG]
and 2 weekend later and alot more cuting you get this
    [IMG]
on the pic it looks kind of jagged, but ist pretty smood

thats it for now, next thing that gonna happen is polishing the fangrill and mount the drivebay

    ok, new update
got back from my lanparty and won some stuff

if anyone had an idea where i can use them in this casemod, feel free to tell me

also started looking for some screws to attatch the fangrill with, i was thinking id take the one on the far right or left, as long as its black, and had a rounded head.
unfortunaly i cant find anything like that here in the local hobbyshop.
so ill look for something in that genre and paint/ adjust them myselve

finished polishing, and looks nice (better than on the pics)

    p2 266mhz
do you think it would be posible to add the second cpu without the volatge regulator??
currently its equipped with 64mb of ram
i might be intrested in an extra stick of ram.
its quite weard layout for the open pins
heres a pic of it, top one is a standart piece of sd ram, and bottom one is from the pc
    [IMG]
you will notice that the opening is slightly more to the left than normaly

trying to mod an old stick to fit in the slot is not a good idea :worried:
then it wont start up an givs an memory error
