Hello trusty bit-tech readers! I am looking for a cheap laptop to run some form of linux to use just for basic school tasks. The reasons I want Linux are

    1. increased battery life due to less processes

    2. cheaper

    3. I want to be familiar with the more popular distros of linux for future career/school purposes

This leads me to look for a barebones laptop, since I can buy it without an OS, unless there are any dealers that sell without an OS, and at a good price.

I am looking to spend < 500, small screens don't bother me, weight doesn't bother me, big computers don't bother me.

I do want built in wi-fi for connecting to the campus network, hard drive space isn't too big of a factor, proc speed doesn't need to be especially fast.

What systems should I go for that offer maximum battery efficiency, while still keeping a fairly low price tag?
