WHY?!? Why does god hate me? :'(

    anyways...
Two 120gig HDDs got all wet. Think they'll be OK though. Even though my raid controller said they failed. I think thats just because my motherboard got wet too.
Posting this from my IRC server. Wow I need to upgrade the ram in it (only 128megs) but then again I don't usually run kde and gnome on it at the same time!

well, here are some pics: (click for bigger)

You'll have to click for bigger to see the foamy bubbles on the top of the water. Its roughly 1 inch above the white window boarder.

Pygobombe, where do you live "rainy season" perhaps its central india perhaps? East Asia? But bad look on the flooding, must of been some heavy rains over the past few days to cause that amount of flooding at that level...

Yup. Keep in mind that the window is about half a foot under the ground level. Water filled up in there like a little tub.

I live in Alberta, Canada btw.

Almost none really. Just water dripped or pored all over my mobo and two HDDs. Also, a surge bar got soaked.
I'll find out later tonight to see if all is well. I have to head off to work now (about an hour and a half late, I will be.)

On the bright side, I took a few nice photos.

Worst bit is... you won't be able to claim on insurance (unless you have additional flood coverage..) as it counts as an "act of God"

Insurance companies are so cheap :grr:

Arguably everthing is an act of god, so they never have to pay anyone.... :sigh:

I'll have to check into flood coverage.
Would be nice to get a new computer :)
Likely, everything will work when I get home :/
My computer still worked when there was water all over it. just the hdds "failed" according to the raid controller.
The computer was also randomly locking up for several seconds at a time after it got all wet.

I want to know what happens if you dont believe in god. Arguably you could take them to court over it.

    Indeed I could.

Though, I don't need to since the mobo and hdds still work!!! :D:DS

I duno why/how. They did have a bunch of water on them, you could even say they got soaked!

If anyone is curious, they where both Maxtor HDDs with the circuit board facing up (with water landing right atop) and an Asus P4P800 delux mobo (the one with the 2 port raid controller)

    no you couldnt....

read your insurance companies definition of "act of god"

its just a phrase they use because ppl understand what it entails. it has nothing to do with anyones beliefs.

There was a movie about that. The Man Who Sued God. It wasn't too bad a film from memory. It raised the interesting question though - if the insurance companies say the damage was caused by God, then the [Catholic] Church (as God's representatives) can be sued for the damages....... Comedy ensues.

Send some of that rain my way, my whole state would gladly take it. We are sorta in a drought at the moment.

<<--Just a hint, its not colorado. You get a cookie if you can name the state!

That film is quite good, raised some pretty good points about insurance companies too.
