So a few days ago I was watching some movies on my computer, when all of the sudden the volume dropped really low. I had to max out the computer volume, the DVD player volume, and my speakers just to be able to hear it. I tried out a few other games/music files/movies, and my overall volume was just really low.

I restarted my computer, and it was still the same. Next I reinstalled the sound drivers, and the volume went back to norm for about half a day, then again the overall volume dropped. Now I just don't know what to do, its frustrating not to be able to have decent sound... any ideas?

BTW I'm using the onboard soundcard on my Shuttle (SN95G5), never had any problems before...

It maybe your speakers. Have you tried headphones?

silly question but, did you check to make sure the plug was in all the way? (loose plugs do odd things) As doug said, try headphones or another set of speakers.

yes, its the overall volume, not the speakers. I tried headphones, different speakers, etc...

yes plugs are all good, went throught the whole unplug/replug. plus I tried my speakers on another comp, works fine...

It's either the onboard sound hardware, or the drivers. Have you tried different versions of the driver?

Sounds like some kind of auto-update kicking in.

Uninstall all the sound drivers, restart
    and reinstall the new one

What may have happened is that a safety system to prevent an overload on the output may have damaged the actual output.

If you can RMA it, send it back.

It sounds like a fried line on the output of the Sound. My free denon old amp has a bum line that isn't as loud as the other 3 for speaker power I think it shorted.
