anyone know where i could get an imac power button they look cool and would be easy to make glow for my new custom case.
You know that, if you do find one, it'll cost you your left testicle, right? Unless you could find someone who's throwing one out. Or who wouldn't mind if you replaced theirs with some other POS. Or better yet, find another switch that's similar. Something NOT apple...
yes i also like them and i wouldn't mind paying for them if only i could find a place that fixes mac's they may have a few lieing around. unless there is a site i can buy them off of.
I would think your best bet would try to find an authorized apple service place/guy in your area and see if they can order one. If they have any dead/parts imacs in their shop, you could really strike gold if they are willing to rip one out for you. If they say "I can order one for you" get ready to pay out!
I just talked to my local Apple Repair Center. 300 miles away. He says that the button cannot be ordered. He also said that they never break and the lightyup function is seperate from the button function. I figured I'd spend my time getting as much information as possible. Me: How does the button work? Is it a normally off momentary on deal or is it an On/off button? Mac Guy: Whoa! You just got too technical for me. Me: Can I talk to one of the techs? Idiot: I am the head tech. What's a momentary button? Me: *head explodes*
Idiot: What are you talking about d00d? All I normally have to do is hook it up to the intarnat thing and it does the work for me. call him back and say that you dropped your imac from your 2nd story window, and everything looks fine except the button doesn't light up. If he can get you the parts, you'll give him a nice tip
That's funny. But somehow not too surprising that Mac techs are not the most electronically gifted out there. But pretty much the rule is Thou Shalt Not Acquire Mac Hardware. Period.
before you even phone you know that the tech's intellgience will be less than average because they obviously weren't smart enough to get a job at a pc repair center.
Just make a single led fader and place it where you like. http://www.metku.net/index.html?sect=view&n=1&path=mods/colorfade/index_eng
the whole point was that I liked that button and i wanted it to glow weather i made it glow or it just did so I am going to phone my local dealer and see if they have any broken ones.. and yes they do break they are mac's. the g4's do look mitty purdy though. oh god what am i saying.....
Its like your brain, momentarily its on...obviously not right now. LOL so many techs are idiots....called into a DSL provider once when i was gettin TTL expired in transit errors where it hopped back and forth between 2 computers. Tech didnt even know what a ping was. Much less tracert....
I really liked the power switches on the cube myself...touch sensitive, totally integrated with the case and the normal gray color would fade to white when you touched it then back to gray when you took your finger off it. The placement was crap though, I shut it off inadvertantly more than once by resting my hand on the cube If i owned one it would have driven me nuts...but imagine placed properly in a plexi case
