ok i'm done with CRT monitors, both my CRTs are messed up, each on its own special way so i'm planning to buy a TFT monitor as soon as possible. Any recommandations ? I would like a 19" TFT monitor especially for gaming, surfing, your typical "eyeball burning" stuff, e.t.c but not so much for watching films. Any well-written guides I could take a look at, as I'm not familiar with TFT/LCD technologies ?

    Cheers

Personally, I'd go with a widescreen, it's just so much better than anything else.

Can you hold on a bit?

Failing that my NEC GX^2 is wonderful but I don't think they can be had for under £200. Can't speak for any other monitors and I have no experience to compare but this is a wonderfully bright and crisp screen with a good response time and did me well as I replayed HL2 just a few days ago. I would avoid the 'gaming' mode though as it seems to ruin the atmosphere of the game by making black shadows grey

If you can afford to go a little higher I would recomend a 20" widscreen not only for the extra 1" but also for the higher resolution.

Samsung 920n falls directly into your budget, or a 913n for an older model, i cant work out what the difference is myself, i have the 913 and my parents have the 920's, anyway, 8ms response time, no ghosting to be seen at all in games such as CS and darkstar one, vga only but in that budget you'll be hard pushed to beat that picture quality IMO

EDIT: Samsung SM-940BW is a widescreen version of this monitor, about £160 inc VAT from overclockers.co.uk

I have the BenQ FP91G+ and am very happy with it - though the FP93GX on newegg has better specs and is cheaper.

The ~20" TFT's I've seen are either 1440x1050 or 1600x1200 for non widescreen monitors.

To the OP: I'd hold on for that Dell 207.
