Which would perform better, 2 cheaper cards, ex, 6800gt in SLI or one more exensive card, ex, a 7900GT?

    Thanks!

In most games the dual 6800GT will be slightly faster. The gap widens between the two setups as resolution increases. But I would still recommend the 7800GT, or maybe a 7900GT if you can afford it. By buying one now, you can always put in another one when you need more speed.

Do you already have a 6800GT? And what resolution will you be playing at mostly?

    It depends on your resolution...

I don't really have a preference as far as resolution, so let's just say 1208x1024 or whicher is closest (not sure of the resolutions XD)

I own a 6800 already, but I'm not sure if it's SLI-capable, it has a little tab for the SLI dongle, does that mean I can use it for SLI?

yeh the lil tab means its sli-able. if you want to do it cheaply 2 6800's should outrun a 7900 at say an average res with average settings. If your looking to upgrade in the future to an 8800, i would save the money and buy another 6800.

I'd rather run at average res with all the stops out.. which would be better? SLI or 7800?

Crap, I got my numbers wrong.

I have a Chaintech 6600GT... Which would be better for average res gaming with full settings, 2x CT 6600GT in SLI or 1x 7800?

Edit, the chaintech 6600 appears to be discontinued, as long as it's still a 6600 would it work in SLI with the chaintech?

From release 80 of the Forceware drivers you've been able to use cards from different manufacturers, so you'd be fine with a non-Chaintech 6600GT.

However, a 7800 would be quite a bit faster, especially at max settings.

I'm using 2x 7950GT (the 512MB version). One from Leadtek, and one from BFG. Works like a charm.
