    Hi all at bit tech

just a little question.... I am in the market for a new video card, I have been surviving on my old 16MB voodoo 3, but time has come to step into the 21st century...!

not after any thing too hi spec, 128mb will do

my question is this... will a NVidia card work better in an NVidia MoBoard? (Abit AN7)

I have heard some good things (over clock wise) about the FX 5700 LE, some peeps getting near twice the stock speed on standard cooling (I am not a big O'Clocker, just like a bit of tweaking)

Any advice welcome... Thanks in advance

PS AGP only.... no PCIE on the board

Nvidia FX series is like the ******* child Nvidia wants to forget.....

    Also whats ur budget?

And what games will you play?

Id say if you can get ur hands on a 6800GT secondhand from ebay it will VASTLY improve your gameplay experiance. Or try a 6600GT, Or if ur on a shoestring budget then atlest get a 9800pro.

If you tell us what sort of things it will be used for, CAD, gaming, etc, then we can serve you better.

If you give us the specs of your current machine then we can pescribe you a card which won't be bottlenecked, so no point in us telling you to a get ________ When it will only utilise 50% of the power.

    Power = More money really.

    Budget £30 - £50

    Current specs -

    Abit AN7 Skt 462, 1Gb Ram, Sempron 2800+

not a big gamer and definatley not on line (i still dont have a connection at home) not worried about the most up to date games etc...

Little bit of video editing (sony vegas) but my 16MB seem to handle the preview pane on that, the main prog I want to run but cant at the mo. is called VJam, a live video performance tool

I am off home now so any additional info will have to wait until tomorrow...

    thank you in my absence....

Okay, well you would easily get away with X700 or a X1300 for that sort of price, what you use it for they would be overkilling it with head room for quite a while.

    or indeed a 6600gt

You might be able to get an X800GTO in your price range, and those can sometimes be unlocked into 16 pipelines, either way making them a great value!

The FX cards had terrible performance. The GeForce 4 series were more powerful in every way besides the fact that they don't have DX9 capabilities. I know people who would use GeForce 4 cards over their FX series card unless they were playing DX9 games because the FX was too weak for them.
