I appear to be the only access point near me, either that or the iron content of our houses bricks are doing a damn fine job of keeping the house remaining like a Faraday cage (which proves irritating when trying to get signal at the other end of the house)

Not remarkably interesting. Linksys is the only one that's actually open; the other unencrypted connections seem to use MAC filtering. And yeah, WEP bad. I'd use WPA but one of the computers that has to be connected to my wireless doesn't support WPA.

wow... crowded. Force your router to channel 1 if you can Crazy, youll have a much cleaner spectrum and better access. The one on channel 3 will still interfear but its a lot better than having several networks on the same freq

Only got one other wireless network round here, and I'm too paranoid to mention it's name.

    Mine is: S-A-I-N-T Prototype 5

    I. Am. So. Pathetic.

    kafka - ch1 - unencrypted
    MB_ROUTER - ch11 - WEP
    Endybobs - ch11 - WEP TKIP WPA
    BTHomeHub-0E0D - ch6 - WEP

Endybobs is an airline pilot, not sure about the others. I'm kafka, and although I appear to be unencrypted, my access point will only allow connections after a successful SSH login, and even then will only allow authorised OpenVPN connections; joo think joo can download teh KP on my wireless? Muahahahahahahaha :hehe:

Kipping a mate's house and this is what the Lenovo's detected:

Where I am is actually PETESHOME (mac filtered). Funny it's only 80% strength seeing as I'm almost sitting on top of the router.

Done. I hadn't thought about it since I set my router up a year ago, and at that point 4 was the cleanest channel.

And terribly sorry my screenshot doesn't have any witty remarks, but I don't know most of my neighbors and can't think of much to say about them.

you couldn't think of anything for "PEN15"?

can't get a signal from my neighbors (or they don't have wifi), and mine is off.

First time I read that, I read "PENIS." I read it a second time, read the same thing, I went up to check, couldn't find it, scrolled back down, read it the same way, went back up, and noticed it's "PEN15" :hehe:

Emz and RTT, those are wonderful! :D

    My list shows:
Ngargoyle - our house. I was finding gargoyles amusing when I set the router up.
antrim - name of next door neighbours' house. Somebody sensible set their router up for them.

And DarkLord7854, that is THE oldest joke ever if you live in england... when you've just learnt to write, you go to all your friends and ask them if they want to join "the pen fifteen club" where they get 15 pens for free, but so that other people know they're members, you have to write pen fifteen on their arm, then you just write PEN15 in huge letters in biro. ahahahahahaha. Though if people haven't heard of that in America, you can have some fun now...

Lenovo notebook eh ? They come with a hefty software package.

Two networks near me - I havent got wireless as I use the T-Mobile 3G card in my laptop.

    1) DLink - Unsecured, no MAC filtering - Dont have a clue on how to secure their network.
    2) YoSnaithers - Unsecured, default password on router, no MAC filtering - I assume that since he knew to change the name the network, he just couldnt figure out how to enable the rest of it.

If I finally get a wireless network in my house, all i need to do is hide the SSID as there would be two other networks which are readily available, both with 1mb broadband connections.
