Well not withstanding dom_'s recommendations, I have a swatch here, and it's really been excellent - it's 10 years old now, and only had a new battery once and a new strap once, so it's been a bargain. Unfortunately I don't really like the looks of their current range, they've tried to go too upmarket-looking imho. Tissot are really nice from what I've seen, and their new touchscreen one (although >> £100) is really awesome looking.
I had one just like that, bought from Next last year for £18, had to stop using it as the watch back started to make my arm itch and go red.
My advice... save a bit more and get something classical and robust. None of this square, 'funky' or 'fashion' watches or loads of digital buttons and naff.. One of the best watches ever.. the IWC Portuguese range, ofcourse you won't be looking at those, but a watch similar in will never lose style, go out of style or be over styled.
He doesn't want to buy something to give to his grand-kids, he wants a watch which will last for a while and just generally be nice to wear.
I guess I missed the £100 part, still Breitling F T W why the hell cant you say "For the win" with the letters on here?
I would ask myself if I wanted a watch, or a time piece. A watch you can get anywhere. But the movement, build and service are....variable. Where as if you by a watch from a company that make timepieces, well as stated before, they will be there for a long time and have a quality build. Save up a bit and buy a something classic. It doesn't have to be a Breitling or a Rolex, but there are companies like Citizen, Tissot or TAG Heuer (better yet if you can find an old Heuer) that have a broad product range, a history and good service. I would stay away from companies that do not traditionaly make watches, since they are basicaly manufactured and rebranded. I am wearing a Swiss Army watch that my wife bought me in 2000. Basic, strong and service has been a breeze. It was $225USD, but it been good to me for 7 years of hard use. It will most likely last me until she decides to buy me an Omega. (That's a hint, honey.)
I know this a male directed thread but... I've had Adec for about 5 years now, and I couldn't be happier with it. It's taken a beating (from working in hospitality, survived a motorcycle accident etc..) and still works fine and just as strong as it ever was. I also bought a storm of london watch for going out - It's really pretty looks like a bracelet! Not.. that I can imagine that's a feature you'd want, but it's a bit hard to read if you drink a little too much champagne...
i have a watch like that too.. this one from pie_uk for xmas i'm sure you all know this watch however... my dad has had it for about 20 years now - cant go wrong with it!!!
Casio F91, greatest watch ever made by mortal man. Killer Features! Alarm AND!! Hourly Chime Date and day Stop watch Water Resist (well sort of) LIGHT!!
Hehe, I used to have one of those. Sadly the strap broke, and it was cheaper to buy a new one than to fix the strap
OooOoo! Very nice - very sparkly.. This is the closest I could find to what mine looks like, but mine is silver, and has a dark purple face on it and they've tinted the glass or something because it has a yellow tinge when you try and read it. What I liked about the storm watches though is that they're different. To me, looking in a jewellers at all the watches - if you take the labels away they all look the same.
My uni mate got given a £3000 Breitling watch for his 21st. He never used to wear it for fear of damaging/losing it. Eventually he got over it and started wearing it and about a week later, one of the hands inside fell off and was rattling around inside the face! Not only that, it was just out of the years warranty and so it cost him over £500 to get get it fixad and serviced. Kinda put me off them tbh...
I wear a Fossil blue watch and have for the past 5 years. It has survived a cracked crystal and numerous band pins. It works for me and I feel naked if I forget to put it on the morning. I need to have a watch on!
