I'm using IRSSI on RXVT-unicode and despite the fact that I can use the £ sign in CLI and VIM, it doesn't produce any output at all (as though I'm not pressing a key).

Is there a script or anything I have to install? I did re-run emerge --newuse world and it updated 48 packages but didn't fix this problem.

Latest off the emerge repositories, can't check version atm. But why can I type the sign in the terminal and every other App?

Never knew you were on IRSSI, thought you were on some weird Mac IRC program that looks like iTunes :p

LOL, I would be impressed with the length of time I've been connected if I used a client on my laptop.

Bbq.of.Doom: It does it on all of them, as I said, RXVT displays the £ symbol on the command line, but not in IRSSI!

I'm going to jump on #irssi later tonight and find a solution

Make sure irssi is using a locale that correctly supports the £ sign such as UTF-8. Gentoo does not default to using unicode for anything iirc. It's probably worth having a look at the documentation on it here and here.
