Case with "Battleground Europe" WWII Online theme. Based mostly on the vehicle gauges and cockpits. Case will be dark blue acrylic, yet with a full aluminum frame. This is 6061 grade aluminum 1/4 inch stock I have drilled out to lighten the weight, and drilled many holes for the screws to hold the acrylic. This is the color of the acrylic, this is a scrap piece. Should get darker as each piece goes on. To get the gauge panel look I will use this clock, along with this scythe meter. I need this case to be silent because it will be on the desk. So it will contain a scale model of NASA Ames research wind tunnel to maximize efficient cooling. Here is the Wide angle diffuser from NASA 11 foot pressure tunnel. And I made this replica in 120mm, these soldiers from my son's PC are to give it scale. Still lots of work to stealth all this into the acrylic.
Instead of telling you what not to do I dont blame him for linking to a page he has already created for his project. It isn't as if he is linking to a project on some other forum. Unfortunately bit-tech'ers seem to be quite lazy when it comes to links. After all think of the 8 seconds it takes to click a link vs the 8 hours daily and more some put into their projects. Your acrylic work looks mighty good there. Good recreation of the tunnel with the fan housing. Got any mockup images of what you want your final result to be? You should probably also post some of the images from your worklog here on the thread so we can see it all together. I am trying to get a picture of what you want your end result to be. Keep it up!
This is how it will look when done, this is just a cut and paste, but you can get the idea. Sorry for linking my exsisting worklog.....
Here is a clear shot of a Blenheim from WWII, I will store the keybord in the lower part of this case. These drawer slides are from Rockler. I will use button head allen screws to attach all the acrylic. I have placed an aluminum honeycomb between the CPU fan and heatsink, which keeps it about 10F degrees lower on average. This will be fed by the contraction cone. My CPU was an employee benefit from Intel, but it did not fit the thermal envelope for a E6700 so it may run a bit warmer than a normal Conroe. Case will have a different look at the intake with these parts. I will make as much of any lighting that goes into the system switchable.
Battleground Europe update Got a good deal of the acrylic panels done for the case. The 45 degree angles on the corners look great to only reveal one seam. Some designs of how it will look when completed: This blue one has aircraft gauges but are too expensive to make like this. This hiper keybaord will look great sliding out of the storage bunker on in the case. The roller here will also lock the keyboard tray in. These chrome pulls will be the lifting spot on the sides. You can see the 9 degree angle in the framing where the monitor will go, this way it will not change the current position of my viewsonic 2025 22 inch widescreen. As much as I would like to see it without the tack paper on the acrylic, I still need to make mroe cuts into it so I must wait.
sorry if it seemed that i was mad about the link.. didnt mean for it to sound like that, was in a hurry. i apologize.. lookin good btw.
Usually I don't like the idea of having a screen in the side of the case, but this one could actually work out pretty nicely. Looking forward.
update After playing WWII Online last night I figured I had to make the compass work on here. It will just look too cool with the game running. Here I cut and drilled out a small square. Then filed the edges smooth. Cutting the 120mm opening and speaker hole with scroll saw. That should be all the holes I need on the left side. I am still unsure what fan guard style I am going with. Here is another pic of the left side. With the 120mm fan and Altec Lansing speaker. And the CD player I painted with Metalcast paint. That stuff it so great. Paints on chrome, aluminum or paint and looks great. I polished off what must be the cheapest primer made before painting. It is starting to look like a PC. The volume control PCB is also on standoffs. A pic of the left side The diffuser and honeycomb sure make a different look. Aimed directly at the components you can see the exit fan on the other side. Along with the PSU fan there should be plenty of air going into this opening.
the speakers may not work to well they need a delicate balance of pressure within the case hence why woofers have such large boxes which are empty in comparison to thespeakers
speakers They will sound better than the stock Viewsonic speakers. I will see about making pods if they don't sound good.
What's the color number of that plastic? I've been looking for some superdark blue, but I'm afraid of ending up with something too light. Nice drillwork, by the way. I know that took forever.
How do I ascertain what the color number is for this acrylic? I don't see any numbers on it. I can call multi craft plastics and ask them, it must be on the chart I looked at when I purchased the stuff. I can't recall seeing many cases using this dark of blue. I really like the color. It looks very dark and reflective without a flash. I will pull the paper off soon
Overdue Update This thing needs an update. I got the windowed HD from Western Digital, this unit is so nice And I really like the OCZ 1066 memory The passthrough to the keyboard/cd will be through this desk type button. This will allow for a good air seal I still had to shorten the wires of this high end PSU. Would be nice if they made some 4-6 inch lenghts for you too. I had to add a mount to this 8800 because it will not have the slot of a normal case. The standoff mount is drilled to match the frame. I have the entire table full of parts to assemble this thing. I have only a few more brackets and one very detailed plexi piece to get it running. I will run Windows and the foot stack of drivers this week and start on the LCD mounts. The specs are: Saxon Computers Hemmed LCD Case with Keyboard Slide GIGABYTE GA-965QM-DS2 LGA Q965 Express Micro ATX Intel Motherboard eVGA GeForce 8800GTS 320MB Superclocked PCI Express Video Card Western Digital Raptor X WD150GB 10,000 RPM Serial ATA150 Hard Drive HIPER HPU-4B580 12V v2.2 580W Power Supply OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 ViewSonic's 20.1" VX2025wm widescreen LCD HIPER HCK-1S18- Silver Slim Clavier Keyboard Sony NEC Optiarc 18X DVDSATA Model AWG170S-B2 AeroCool TURBINE 1000 120mm Fan LINKSYS WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router HAWKING HWUG1 USB 2.0 Wireless-G Adapter with Removable Antenna ALTEC LANSING Speakers Logitech 931379-0403 Cordless Notebook Mouse Fieon Digital HYN104-BLU 4-Port Hub
Like the look of the case so far there. You don't see too many cases setup like that so t will be fresh to see a well executed mod with one. good work and keep it up, were impatient and expect updates.
