    Lo chaps!

Basically i want to install Xp on a lappy with a Sata HDD, problem is that i can't install anything coz it needs the Sata RAID drivers which i don't have. So from where can i obtain generic ones or is there another way round it.

Ive had a look on the manu's site and they don't have any HDD based drivers for download as the lappy is over a year old.

TBH im good with this crap but a long day has got my mind slowed down, can any one help?

Try checking driverguide.com for some drivers, and other sites. Thats really all I can think of. You're in a bit of a pickle.

Yah a USB key or CDRW will be needed, either way none of my machines have a floppy neither does the lappy.

New problem, its a 945GM chipset from Intel. Ive gotten the drivers from them but now my USB key is acting up.......great.

Anyways ive gotten a utility that sorts out Floppy/USB disks for the RAID drivers but as i havent gotten a floppy and my USB key is acting up im ****ed as the software cant find anything to transfer the files too. Now i gotten the fulkl and updated set of drivers for the 945Chipset and i wanted to dump those in a spare folder and as i have got a 945 enabled mobo for my PC it wont let me to extract them......

    This is getting stupid.

I may as well attach the HDD to my Pc and install windows from there and then once windows is fully installed just transfer the HDD over without any drivers or anything installed.

    Why don't you:
    http://www.nliteos.com/
The program will take you through step by step and let you embed your drivers on a copy of your win disk.

That wont work. I know, I've tried to do it in the past with a laptop with a busted CD drive. A desktop PC differs hugely to a Laptop & Windows doesnt like being transfered.

btw - does your XP CD have SP2 included on it?

Why would you need the RAID drivers for a laptop? Have you checked in the BIOS to see what mode the SATA controller is set too?

Heh, there would been a easier way to do this :) I know this comes bit late now but in notebooks what has a SATA HDD's and XP on it and no disk drive at all... They have his "work around" installed in their BIOS. Just go in BIOS, open up Device Management, find a "native sata mode" and Disable it. This makes windows installation think that there is a PATA HDD installed and installation goes trough without problems. Maybe this will be a good reference in the future if someone ever tries to search a solution for a same problem.
