I'm looking to buy a PSU for my PC build.
I would prefer an energy efficient, modular type.

With PCI-e power output. and approx 550 - 600 watt output.

Any recommendations for a good one?
I don't mind paying a bit over the odds.

People keep telling me corsair 520w or 620w versions. Both are modular.

I had this problem of deciding on a PSU to replace my hiper 480W, people say corsair but looking at the prices i picked up a Hiper 670w which peaks at ~730W, for the price of the corsair HX520. so i dont have a modular PSU but iv got great value for money and a 80% efficienct PSU.

i guess the peak of the HX520 is about 580W, but thats still far lower than 670W rated. Corsair are very over priced.

Actually, the hiper was my first choice before I posted here.
Mostly because of the price and good reviews.

Yeah, the corsair is VERY expensive, a bit more than I was prepared to pay, I was thinking about £70.

Read your review Pope, it does look like a good PSU..
I saw it for £97 on a website, so I guess it has come down since the review.
Still a little TOO pricey for me.
But then I again, I might change my mind when I actually decide on what PSU to get.

On Ebuyer its £89.38 for the 620 I think its the same price on scan. The Hipers look good but have had no experience with them.

I think the 520 is a down rated 650w to be quieter and more efficient at the rated specs, similar thing for the 620w as well

They've been absolutely great for me, and I love them.
But I also know that a fair amount of people have had problems with them (they just crap out etc).

hmm, that's not GREAT news about the Hiper crapping out sometimes.

I may well just bite the bullet and get the Corsair 520, that SHOULD be enough, I'm not gonna be overclocking or stuff like that.

Both a friend and I both had Hipers die on us. He replaced his with something different, but I bought another - just so I could leave the modular cables attached to devices and replace the PSU unit!

However I'm now looking for another PSU. There's nothing wrong with this Hiper (touches wood), but I want to transfer it into another machine and get something a bit beefy for main PC.

Hey Bursar... long time no 'see' :cooldude:

I can heartily recommend the 750w PCP&C Ultra-Quiet Quad Silence
I bought one for my new (quad-core) build... for 'just' £99/£117.xx (it would've cost nigh-on double that price just a few months ago!)
