    Update 1 (10/22)

This is my first attempt at both building my own computer and building my own case.

    Computer Specs:
    Intel Q6600
    EVGA 680i SLI
    EVGA 8800GTX
    4GB Corsair DDR2
    Creative X-Fi Platinum
    2x Western Digital 250GB
    Enermax Infinity 720
Either MCE2005 or Vista Business (leaning towards MCE2005)

I was debating for a while whether a was going to buy a case or make one. As a longtime worklog forum reader, I was leaning towards making a case.
Drawing inspiration from Tale Gunner's worklog,
I convinced myself that I wanted to start a woodworking project, and this would provide a perfect opportunity.
Initially it was going to be made completely from oak, but when I found I had access to a nice supply of black walnut I decided to use it instead.

Here's my conceptual design in sketchup.

For the front of the case, I've always liked the look of the Cheiftech cases, so I was trying to do something similar.

Early on I learned the limitations of my skills with wood, so I took a shortcut and ordered a LianLi mobo tray/backplate. Other than that, I hope to fabricate most everything else.

Initial layout, trying to get a grasp of how things will look:

Somehow I convinced myself that I was going to dovetail the exterior joint. Here's my first attempt:

I've gotten a little better since then.

Recessing the fans (an excuse to use a chisel).

    Fits perfectly

    Starting to take some shape.
