Hello everyone I'm having a little problem with my comp and would need a bit of help to choose a solution I just bought a 4gb (2*2) kit of ocz reaper hpc pc8000 (and i have a second in order) so that would give me 8gb I want to replace the current 4x1g corsair pc8500 that i have. Now the problem is my board wont boot (no beep but no display) with the 4gb kit (2x2). The board is an asus p5b deluxe and it is watercooled. Chipset with swiftech block vrm with koolance block as40 (the old model) cpu with apogee gtx vid with dd 8800gtx So the choices that are available to me 1- scrap the idea of going to 8gb and sell 1 kit to my bro and put the other one in my media center pc (if it works) 2- buy a new board for the board, i had in the idea to buy: asus p5e ws and hope that both of my vrm blocks fits asus maximus formula and not watercool the board asus maximus formula and watercool the nb and vrm and buy a sb block any other board that supports ddr2 and fsb 1600 (my cpu currently runs a 375 fsb) and either watercool, change nothing or buy a few thermalright coolers 3- try to find ram that will work on my board Thanks for the help
nope doesn't work with only one stick also try to remove and reinstall and doesn't work too i'll try it on another comp to see if they at least work (should be, they are brand new, but we never know)
Well either a stick (or all sticks dont work), the slot your putting it doesnt, or your motherboard just doesnt like that ram, just play about with it all different configarations and in different computers that may seem stupid I have a massive headache and im not sure I am reading right so sorry if you have tried this already
both stick work in my media center pc also, all the slots on my p5b are filled with 1g sticks so it would be surprising that one is not working properly
Did you put the sticks in the correct slots for dual channel operation? When I got my PC the 2 x 1GB sticks were in the slots next to each other, even though the computer worked like that I unplugged 1 stick and moved it over to the middle slot so dual channel would work, my mobo Abit IN9 32-MAX has the slots colour coded to show which ones are for each dual channel configuration. When you got the RAM did you just unplug your old RAM and plug the new RAM into it and boot up (or try to boot up) your PC without going into BIOS and changing the settings to suit the new RAM? You said you had PC8500 and now have PC8000 which is slower RAM so the BIOS settings might need to be changed.
yeah i do know about the color code of the board, but i have no boot at all, no beep, nothing, i tried to reset it but it didn't solve the problem /edit the ram is currently running at 750 at a 1:1 multiplier so even if i would put pc6400, it would work
is there a way to add a poll after the thread is created ? seems it will be easier to get an answer about what would be recommended Thank you
i have no boot at all, no display, nothing but also i have no beeps tried the sticks in a p5k-vm and it works perfectly so it seems to be my p5b that doesn't like it
Nah, I mean boot with working sticks, put the voltage up a smidge, save+exit, switch off, swap out and give it a go.
oh well the voltage is currently set at 1.95v so it's a bit higher than default (well i haven't lowered it since i last used my 2X1g ocz kit)
