I can get old cellphone LCD's at a nice price, they are not compatible with standard LCD's thou, so they can't just be connected to the paralell port. They are 4*12 chars, LED backlit, and they have the usual additional symbols found on most cellphones. (battery meter, signal level meter, mail-symbol for SMS, and so on..) Of course, they are very small, and draws pretty much no current at all. I do know exactly how they works, so I could make a microcontroller solution that talks to the LCD and communicates serially with the PC, or use it for a fan and temperature monitoring device, or something else.. I need suggestions How about three LCD's side by side in a 5.25" bay? Could that be used for something cool? The battery meter and signal level meters offers some intresting possibilities too.. (winamp sound level, temprature, fan speed, ...)
You could use the SMS symbol for emails. Use the voicemail thingy for when playing winamp or other media Change the LEDs on the screen to blooo . looks cool
the battery/network meter you can use as sound bars for left and right! and yeah, if you get it working I think you'll be able to sell some!
I think it's even small enough to be modded into a keyboard.. Current consumption is so low that it can be powered off the serial port.. No extra power cables. Using the meters for winamp audio level is nice, too bad the two meters don't look the same, but who cares? How about using it to create a digidoc clone?
That would look well nice if its set in your keyboard Let us know if you get this goin cause ive got a couple of mobile lcds lying around i can use Wheelie
