Some help needed for linux based home file server

    not sure how to check on that. I installed again last night, only this time, I didn't include the 200+gb space in the list. I only partitioned 100mb for boot, 10gb for root, and 1gb for swap.. turns out that installation was a breeze. does this mean xubuntu took ages to partition and format a 200+gb hdd?

    Glad you got it going, i'm not sure why it had trouble with your disk. I don't know what xubuntu comes with gui wise to handle disks but cfdisk is installed by default and is very easy to get information on and not really difficult to use. That'll do your partitioning then formating is a simple command (mkfs.ext3) and you'll be fine.

    lspci is a command you type into the terminal that will return a list of all your pci based devices
