Electronics DIY KVM, use a digital switch?

    I was looking for stuff about DIY KVM switches on the net and it seems that everyone was trying to use physical switches. Why couldn't you just use a series of switching transistors or some kind of IC? I feel like I must be missing something here, feel free to let me know if I'm being a moron.

    Where do you store the circuit board? Other than that I don't see any problem.

    sounds simple enough 4051/52 etc IC switches come to mind

    loads of KVMs are electronic. If you're planning on making your own, make sure you use ICs that can switch fast enough to deal with DVI signals (1.65GHz)

    I think DVI is more like 165MHz, still damn quick though for an amateur. VGA would be even harder because its analogue and even higher frequency.
