Hey guys, just a quick question about international shipping and tax. I've got a budget of about £150, and was scouting about for a decent set of headphones and a new sound card when I stumbled upon this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-Razer-Bar...hash=item130255212640&_trksid=p3286.m63.l1177 Seems pretty good to me, £130 all in for what would cost ~£220 to buy from the UK. i've bought little things like leads and guitar picks from the US before now, but I was just wondering if there is anything I should be aware of ordering a 'biggish' item, will I get stung for loads of import tax (i.e. will it end up costing me more than getting it from the UK?) Thanks in advance
Ah good plan, forgot about that. I'll ask and see what happens, if the item is marked as a gift does that make it tax exempt altogether or can they still charge ?
IIRC Gifts are duty/VAT free but if they suspect it isn't a gift then it will be subject to the full duty+VAT.
Groovy, can't wait till this arrives, it'l be the first decent PC sound card I've had . . . ever lol hmm, well I did have a turtle beach santa cruz back in the day but thats kinda old hat now lol
If you buy it with money you got on your bithday, isn't it technically a birthday present? OT: Yeah - You would only get shafted import/VAT if they suspect it isn't a gift. Side note: Law enforcement suppliers will not mark things as gifts >.>
So it makes SFA difference on items worth over £36. No, confiscation and a smuggling charge. How do all these myths arise? The truth is out there.
Hit and miss for me. Have been charged sometimes but mostly not. Gift seems to be a uniform solution.
