Caught this little bugger in the toilet, no idea how he got in there, but I decided that he's not leaving until he pays me back for rescuing him Whaddaya think?
Hypnotoad The first outdoor shot with him on the white surface is the best in all aspects IMO. The studio shots I really am missing full dof. As there is nothing disturbing around him that would need to be blurred out I think it's a shame that there is loss of detail. All in all still some good shots. Good job!
Thanks for the comments guys! OleJ, most of the 'studio' (was just piece of white perspex) were shot at F8 and beyond, but this Sigma lens has an insanely small DOF when it's on macro mode for some reason. I'll keep it in mind for the future though.
Common rule: The shorter the MFD the narrower the DOF. This is the case with ALL lenses, not just macro.
Edit: AHA! Minimum Focal Depth? Or Max Focal Depth? No... that is aperture related... Arghh... Help Edit Edit: Do you mean "The closer you are to your subject the lower DOF"? How much I ever love 3LAs I can't decipher MFD... Wikipedia couldn't help me either: MFD From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search On Wikipedia, MfD may refer to Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. http://www.outsight.com/hyperfocal.html#nearfar There are better ones out there but I can't be bothered to look right now. But it's a factor of your aperture, sensor size, lens length and focusing distance. OleJ - minimum focusing distance.
MFD is just that. For all you kiddies at home with wide aperture lenses (something f/2.8 or wider) shoot an object at MFD wide-open then back up a tiny bit and re-shoot it again wide open. Note how the DOF looks greater the further back you shoot. The very same applies to a macro lens although the closer the MFD the more dramatic the variance in DOF.
