Any ideas what kind of price this is going to retail for? And please don't have a go at me for asking, but any ideas on the release date? Cheers
sod the XP2800...almost as soon as its released, the AMD 'Hammer' chip will be released which is totally different and better than the old XP2800...not least the new 166Mhz FSB it runs on! But it has like a million more data pins on it so you will need a new motherboard with the new socket... thats what im waiting for!
between 1000 and 500 pins isn't it (depending on model...) However I think it will be a little while until the hammer chips launch after the 2800+
754 pins to be exact check the picture of the socket here: http://www6.tomshardware.com/mainboard/02q4/021017/images/17.jpg
there has been some speculation that these 2800 cpu's will retail for about 200 quid or higher. but we will have to wait and see, you know amd, they are cheap as chips
I highly doubt that AMD will release the Clawhammer as soon as the xp2800+ is released which will be the first quarter of next year and will sell for around £300 seeing as though the 2600+ which will be released in the next month and will be about £260. I have just bought an xp2400+(overlocked at 2600+) with an Abit Kd7-Raid mobo and 512mb of Corsair PC3200 RAM and quite honestly it couldn't be any faster. No normal desktop user will hav an use for the Clawhammer anyway so there is no point in waiting imo
well that does sound interesting OLV...you say youve over clocked your 2400 to equivalent of the 2600...how did you unlock it? i think ill hold out until either the 2700 or 2800...but a clawhammer would be very nice! I dont agree the normal desktop user wont have any use for a clawhammer, mainly because it runs on a 166 bus by default compared to the XP chip...so it will be a lot faster
with my motherboard Abit KD7 the chip is already unlocked, not sure if this applies to other motherboards but i just increased the FSB in BIOS as normal and weee 2600+
oh yeah that will work fine, but if you wanted your front side bus even higher you would have to lower the multiplier on your CPU so that your CPU isnt running too fast...and its the multiplier that will be lcoked. ...just out of interest, are you running your XP2400 on a 166Mhz FSB?
I agree with the timescale thing and the only reason i want one is for the higher fsb (I know i could also get the 2700) As for the really stupid question any ideas when it will be released, i know the most unreliable source i've seen said late november (AMDs site) but it's bound to be anything but
why cant AMD pull their fingers out of their butt(s) and get cracking with producing the claw hammers and actually shipping them, then if the equivalent AMD chip came out the same time as the equivalent P4, everyone would see how AMD pee-pee all over P4 chips **edit, as if we didnt know already! heh
The fastest Pentium 4 is only 2.8GHz so AMD arn't really that far behind with the 2600+ being released in the next month or so. AMD still know they have a huge fan base as it where of loyal customers that would rather sit pulling their own pubes out with tweezers all day rather then buying an Intel chip. AMD are just cunningly waiting to release the power and tbh i can't imagine anyone needing anymore speed then the 2400+ atm
i have been an amd user for a while but recently took the plunge and went p4, i got the 2.53b cpu, yes the fastest retail intel cpu is 2.8ghz but when you have a 2.53 that will clock at 3.2ghz (highest i wil take it) imagine what a 2.8 will clock to i am still interested in seeing what these clawhammers can do, hopefully they wont be a disappointment
hehe traitor indeed...i left intel behind back in the days when my Pentium 150Mhz was top of the line and cost £2000 !!!!!!!!!!! intel suck, intel are a rip off, AMD kicks intel's ass 100%
doesn't the fact that an AMD at 2ghz can keep up with a 2.4ghz intel. I mean 400Mhz is a huge difference but yet they still perform at the same level. Intel imo are for retards with too much money so they can say "oooo i have a 3billion Ghz computer" would would prolly be beaten by a 2hz amd tbh
The reason is because Intel spend there money on manufacturing methods, in fact they have just admitted to spending $12.5bn on developing there production methods.(http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2404599.stm) Whereas AMD spend there money on making them run more efficiently thereby reducing the cost of the chip thereby giving the public a performance chip for a lot less than intel
bit off topic but have you all read this? "Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) is reportedly planning to introduce the 333MHz FSB (front-side bus) standard to its Athlon XP 2600+ and the 0.13-micron-process Thoroughbred core to its entry-level Athlon XP 1700+ in an attempt to strengthen the company’s overall product lines." sound pretty interesting me me!
