Hi, I'm running the system below: C2D@3GHZ Asus P5W DH Motherboard 4GB DDR2 620W PSU Asus 4870x2 gfx Under Vista I could merrily run games fullscreen with the both 4870x2 cores running at full speed AND have a second screen up with movies and whatnot running. With Windows 7.... I run the same setup, but fullscreen gaming does not utilise the second gpu, i.e. the internal crossfire of the card is not working. Catalyst 9.5, 9.4 and the beta drivers released recently have been tried. If I disable the 2nd screen, it works fine. But here's the kicker, if I remove ALL ATI software, and let win7 autodetect the card and install it's default drivers, both cores are utilised with both screens enabled. Obviously i lose all the benefits of CCC with this. Any ideas, other than reinstalling Vista?
i doubt it other than to use the win 7 drivers from ATI. have you tried the WHQL ones that have been released now they are dated 15/05 so very new. hows performance on default drivers ? have you just tried using the driver rather than CCC ? since win7 is still not released MS do say not to use it as your primary setup and there are bound to be technical issues/bugs. i guess wait for new driver or revert back to vista
I've used pretty much everything available, running the latest drivers now. The default Win7 drivers seem adequate, but CCC adds some bells and whistles, not to mention overclocking. Catalyst AI seems to be highly recommended elsewhere on the web. I'll roll back to the default, but cant help but feel I'm missing something obvious.
if you wanted to keep the benifits of CCC then try using ATi tool, it has a similar overclocking layout to that of CCC, and you would then be able to keep both cores running. If you do decide to use ATi tool then I would advise removing all other overclocks done before first, as it may cause problems later on.
which build of windows 7? Beta (7000) RC (7100) Pre-RTM (7157) - this was leaked recently onto some torrent sites. In dev manager, open the properties for your graphics card, and what is the driver version?
I've got exactly the same issue. I didn't check whether Crossfire was enabled or not before installing CCC with dual monitors, but in Vista64 or XP32 I get Crossfire functioning with dual screens, and with Windows 7... Crossfire disabled when both are plugged in. It's not a deal breaker, but it is a bit annoying.
I checked with 3D Mark 2006 - I get about 15500 with it off, 23500 with it on. Also, GPUz, while it does say that it might not be accurate for Vista 64 (and Win 7 64) has so far not lied to be about Crossfire being enabled or disabled.
I fire up a full screen game with Rivatuner and GPUz open on the second screen. The second core does seem to be uitised, but at 2d speeds, it's weird. Not to mention the performance hit, I run Fraps for the on screen FPS read out
